Cpanel screw up last night, anyone affected?
so i get a text msg on my cell around 8am saying server domain is down. so i roll over grab my laptop (yeah i sleep with a laptop, when g/f is not over). Any turns out after call my data center that Cpanel set out an update last night but forgot to add the named dns files as part of the update (Thanks Cpanel). no harm done since i was notified of the problem a minute after it happened and tech just manually updated named. but, i noticed that a lot of sites that i go to had similar problems.
anyone else still experiencing that problem? |
I use a 3rd party for DNS so there's redundancy.
DNS isn't something that should be hosted on 1 server. |
I don't allow automatic updates of Cpanel on my servers...
And before doing an update, I check their forum to see if any problems happened, and if so I note the solution, just in case ... A bit longer process, but safer . |

My virtual clients have dns on two different servers in different datacenters. Dedicated, well it is up to the client. I recommend zoneedit as free dns . |
i think i may setup a 3 party dns setup just in case something like this happens again. i was planning on setting up a dedicated mysql server, might as well do a dns server too while in the process.
