Anyone else fighting fleas at this time of year?

I am having a helluva time here, but I managed to get them somewhat under control. I have 1 dog and 3 cats, and they are going through the most terrible I have seen in years. I just moved into this house near the woods, and there is a lot of tall grass. I let my pets roam as they wish, but here lately I have quarantined them to the house.

What are your best (and least expensive) tips?

I have bathed them all with some good flea - tick shampoo, and powdered them for longer lasting effectiveness.
I even mopped the floors with the shampoo and powdered the furniture and cracks in the hardwood floors.

I was told to use bleach, but wasn't sure what it would do to the hardwood floors, so I haven't tried it.

What do you do to take control of the situation?

Advantage is all you need. These are the watery like drops you place along the dogs back near the neck once per month. I have three flea free dogs in the tropics and wouldn't use anything else. Also, my sister who is a Vet recommends this.

Although, the first month best to use both Advantage and "The Program" pills. Works like a charm.

Yeah I was reading about both of those on the net while researching flea control.

They seem to be recommended by many vets and pet owners alike.

I as a cat owner can vouch for it! It really works but it has to be the Advantage , you get it from the vet or you can get it on line.

:)

Yes, make sure you get real Advantage brand name. It's not very expensive, really.

There's another brand called Advantix, and it may even be made by the same people, and it's supposed to fight ticks too. I don't recommend this, the flea control is not as good. Check for ticks by hand once a week.

Get Revolution for your dogs. Fleas bite the dogs. Fleas die. Fleas can't reproduce if they're dead. The fight is over.

Try Advantix. I've had mixed results with it for fleas, but I hear it works pretty good for ticks.

Frontline is good, failing that garlic puts the fuckers off biting your animals.. but they'll probably start biting your ankles instead ;)

Advantage is unreal, I had to use that on my dog last year and my flea problem was over in no time.

I've learned over the years that it's less expensive to go to the vet and get a good product rather then spending hundreds on junk at all the drug stores etc and still have a flea problem!

Dont waste your time puting something on the animal, unless you intend on doing something about where the fleas came from. Go to walmart, and look for a bug killer called Seven. They have it in a dust, and also granuals. The dust you can spread around, and within 15 minutes, all of the bugs will be dead. The other takes a little longer, but lasts longer as well.

Yes, I am familiar with seven as well. It is useful for many things.
