Yeah when it rains heavy it goes out for abit. Local channels, etc are all analog so the picture quality is crappy. Satelite is all digital, including local channels. In my opinion it is much better. We dropped cable in a heart beat and havent looked back.

We don't have direct tv here

CIVMatt 07-20-2006 01:00 PM

Cable sucks, directv is MILES better then cable... and if you have your dish tuned in for the max sig rain wont affect it, I went though what 6 hurricanes here in orlando and I lost signal for maybe 5 minutes the entire season

xclusive 07-20-2006 01:02 PM

I have it and i am very happy.

Serge Litehead 07-20-2006 01:02 PM

not liking it much tbh for 2 reasons
1. constant loss of signal during bad weather
2. directTV uses mpeg4 compression so that image quality isn't the best, sometimes looks like a small sized vid opened in full screen mode.

SxDx 07-20-2006 01:25 PM

love it. signal only goes out when it absolutely poors and even then, it only goes out for a minute or two

Just Jace 07-20-2006 01:29 PM

LOL...I love that you always have to get GFY's opinion on things that we talk about away from the boards...haha

yes, directv rules...there is NO cable/satellite system that can TOUCH what they offer

I have Directv, Tivo, and XM Radio all in one package with Directv and I have never paid more than $60 a month

Just Jace 07-20-2006 01:30 PM

and to those that say the signal goes out during storms, the signal only goes out when there is electrical interference....so, if it is just a basic storm your satellite should not being going out, if it is you have a mis mounted disc....ours RARELY goes out, only when there is an electrical storm with TONS of lighting

we had them come out 3 times until they finally got it mounted right, it has not gone out once in the past 3 months...oh wait, last week it went out for 3 minutes

Danid0llface 07-20-2006 01:33 PM

I dont watch tv but have direct.

Jay 07-20-2006 01:38 PM

I have had Directv for over 6 years, and the only time my signal drops is when there is really heavy cloud cover, and that only happens during really heavy rain fall. Cable will go out to for any number of reasons. Directv is sooo much better, but my bill is alot more than $60/month though...:Oh crap

dooglas 07-20-2006 02:05 PM

Directv is awesome. You have to be in a HUGE storm for the signal to drop. Happens maybe twice a year for 15 minutes. I love the HD, Dolby Surround etc.

anne 07-20-2006 02:06 PM

We dont have any problems with our direct tv. We did have some issues back in michigan when it would snow. If the snow packs up on the dish you have to scrap it off or the reception gets bad.

Sosa 07-20-2006 02:39 PM

I'm happy with it. The rain / snow deal depends on your area and your signal strength to begin with. Also where they mount the dish on your house. GO with the HD receiver or even the HD / DVR one and you will be happy!

ravo 07-20-2006 02:45 PM

We have ExpressVu (same as DirectTV, but in Canada). Very happy with it, and since we've had the dish properly aligned (now gets 100% signal), we've never lost the signal, even in heavy snow and rain.

My friends on cable say the DirectTV signal is much better than their cable.

Bro Media - BANNED FOR LIFE 07-20-2006 02:53 PM

i like it... ALOT

GoodGuy 07-20-2006 06:37 PM

you need a deco for every TV, and they charge additional for it...

with 1 deco you can only use one TV... if you have 5 tvs you need 5 of those.

Directv sucks.

Also, I don't watch more than 1 hour TV per week..

I just wonder why the average north-amercian watches so much TV, instead of going out in their free time. You live only once, enjoy life.

just because the average north-american has 5 tv's doesn't mean all they do is sit and watch tv... i have 6 tv's in my house, and i watch 1 hour of tv a day if im lucky, atleast 30 mins mon-friday (gotta watch family guy).. alot of people like to not have to watch something their other family members watching, so they goto their own room and watch tv

candyflip 07-20-2006 07:46 PM

I get HD with cable. Don't think DirectTV offers that yet, so I'm not switching back any time soon.

Aside from going out during wind and rain and snow, I had no other complaints while I used 'em.

Serge Litehead 07-20-2006 07:53 PM

they've got HD

JaneB 07-20-2006 07:55 PM

I have direct tv and I love it. I have had no problems with it at all. I also have Tivo from them. Tivo rocks!!!

directv has HD, and in fact they will be the largest HD provider by the end of the summer, they have something like 150 HD channels about to be unleashed

Doctor Dre 07-20-2006 08:43 PM

I've had satellite here in canada and I would suggest to stick with your cable TV distributor. The digital TV thigny do the same thing nowdays and you don't loose signal.

CamsLord 07-20-2006 08:49 PM

it sucks in the rain and snow

czarina 07-20-2006 08:52 PM

we had it for a while. If you dont mind having 130 out of 200 chanels being sports, Then go for it.

E$_manager 07-20-2006 09:06 PM

my friend is very happy with it.

Yep. I have had a very bad time with them. I actually paid for my neighbor across the street to get HBO so I could watch The Sopranos, that's sad every Sunday night mine would go out but his would be fine.

:(

Just Jace 07-20-2006 09:09 PM

you know what is funny about all these directv haters

I would love to see any of them get the deals you can get with directv

We have 2 recievers, Tivo (DUAL TUNER), XM Radio and over 200 channels....for $49 a month

:(

like I said earlier, you need to call directv about that.....it shouldn't happen that often...it storms about as much here as it does where you are and ours barely ever goes out. It all has to do with the mounting job the reciever got and the view to the sky...if the mounting is just a fraction off, it will go out the minute it starts raining, and that isn't right, they will fix it for you if you bitch
