Anyone have a T1 line in their home?

We were thinking about getting one but not sure if our current setup would be better. We have 6bit DSL, 10bit cable and 2 more DSL lines on the way.

Anyone have any T1 experience in their home? I'd love to have a t3 line but that's not really practical :1orglaugh :Oh crap

sandman! 07-20-2006 11:32 AM

a t1 is 1.54 each way its also considered a biz product if your t1 goes down at 3am you can get on the phone and bitch at a tech and they will send someone out to fix the line at 3am if something happend to it.

Degenerate 07-20-2006 11:34 AM

what does a t1 in your home go for? $500 a month?

OG LennyT 07-20-2006 11:34 AM

isnt T1 slower than cable?

T1s are pretty fucking slow aren't they ? Isn't it 1.5 mbits / sec ???

My line is about 10mbits right now...

acctman 07-20-2006 11:36 AM

t1 is slower than cable, but faster on the upload side

Depends if your upload is capped dude ... mine isn't.

Sosa 07-20-2006 11:38 AM

Sounds like you already have a shitload of bandwidth, I don't see why adding another 1.5 line is going to make a ton of difference unless your upload is capped on all your other connections.

And unless you upload stuff all day... no use.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I think T1s are going for around $350 to $600/month now. I think our current lines are better combined, just wondering if there's any benefits.

Our cable sucks (Charter) so we don't even count as having it because we rarely use it. Our DSL is pretty fast and stable, thankfully!

the only reason to get a t1 is if you want a stable connection and to be able to bitch 24/7 if something is wrong also 1.54 up is quicker then allmost all dsl/cable upload speeds if you upload alot you will like it its 1.54 down and up.

Anna_Miller 07-20-2006 11:54 AM

We have a T1 but at $500/month AT&T caps it.
We are out in the country tho so its our only option.

but yeah, theres advantages of T1, like security, support, availability, etc.. but for 3-600 a month? no thanks, not for me

MSV 07-20-2006 11:56 AM

Standard cable and DSL packages are faster than T1 lines... though most can't upload as fast, but there isn't that big of a differance in upload speeds.

Bandwidth addict. Time is money!

You can also never have too much back up when all your income is internet based.

The first week we had cable, it went down until they came to repair it a week later.

sexypond 07-20-2006 12:12 PM

No, we don't have that connection here

Deputy Chief Command 07-20-2006 12:13 PM

my internet penis is faster than yours / / YAAAAAY

Murderous 07-20-2006 12:14 PM

No, I want one though. I have a couple Paradyne Comsphere 3000 modem banks, and nothing to use them for.

tony286 07-20-2006 12:17 PM

charter is the worst we have them and they suck the big one

XxXotic 07-20-2006 12:35 PM

I have 10meg penthouse suite quality cable so T1 would be an overpriced studio apartment
