Top Referrers - When to reset them?
For top referrer scripts, would you rather have them reset the stats every X amount of time (so 1 hour after the reset, the hits in from those referrers will appear very low), or do you want them to not reset the database at all - instead show the referrers by how many hits were sent in in the last X amount of time (24 hours) - that way, when the script updates, it will remove the hits sent older than 24 hours, and display a table where only hits from the last 24 hours are counted...
Also, how often do you think this should update? realtime? 5 mins? thanks :) |
I don't know if there is a correct answer on this.
Our script updates hits every 10 minutes, It resets once a day at 03:00. You can set it to show the hits over the last 24 hours, so you would never show a low total. shemp |
Shemp is the Man...Take his advice.

but then your top referrer table would show hits sent yesterday?
|
Huh?
no, its a running 24 hour count, accurate to the last 10 minutrs. You want it to count a day in advance? shemp |
how much did you pay for it?

ok guys.. heres what i decided..
1) there will be no script reset - it will display the hits in the last X amount of time (probably 24 hours) 2) the user can create their own template for the displaying of the top referrers, using something like $SITE1, $URL1, $HITS1 etc etc allowing the user to design the way the referrers should be dispalyed in any way they want 2) the script will update every 5 mins or so, so that it the script uses minimal resources.. does this sound good? |

If you're gonna sell it, make it customizable.
