Design Contest :: Send it to the judges!!! ;-)

Sheesh...I just checked something for shits and giggles and I found that this whole voting system is terribly flawed...all you have to do is delete your cookies and revote. I say fuck the polls and send it to the judges. Otherwise we might never know who actually won.

This wasn't supposed to be a contest between who could delete their cookies and revote faster/more often than the other guy...it was supposed to be about design and who presented the best, most marketable site.

Shame too...such a great idea...maybe the guys running the script can ban all multiple votes from the same IP number. That would level the playing field but it is rather rediculous when all you have to do is delete your cookies and then you can go through it again.

Props to everyone who participated though...it takes balls to whip yer dick out in public and ask everyone around you what they think :winkwink:

When do we learn who the winners are?

Zayne E. 06-08-2002 04:55 AM

I think they'll be sending it to the judges just as soon as the guys get tired of deleting their cookies and revoting :1orglaugh

I regret joining the contest

BadBoyBill4281 06-08-2002 05:17 AM

should have used the system i had setup for the voting but no one wanted to listen to that idea so everyone that joined the contest GO FUCK YOURSELF even my designer who submitted cause you all just got screwed the hard way, great work i did see by all maybe ppl will learn to take in to consideration what others know and do for a living and learn from this that you can't always take the first idea and go with it!! "BUSINESS is made on many ideas not single ideas" :feels-hot

even judin the sites now would be a complete loss due to al the negiative remarks made on some and true dislike of how the voting for this whole event was done like i said i offered to AMP and JPF on how the voting should go but i didn't work out that way none the less if this is still to go on good luck to all!!!:warning

The whole thing is a shame...it's like I mentioned on another post...these guys running the show should have been way more careful. With the prizes being offered (valued at several thousand dollars) you really gotta CYA. If someone got a wild hare up their ass it could get pretty fucking ugly, really fast.

I did it for show...and the prospect of earning business...that's way more important to me than the prizes (like I want to pay to have a two-ton television shipped to FloriDUH from Cali). Unfortunately, it looks like the peeps running the show want to keep the prizes "in house." Such is life...and I have no hard feelings. My site speaks for itself, good, bad or indifferent. I believe my objective will be achieved by the contest.

In my mind, the results (prior to going to the judges) are completely pointless and worthless. Who cares what the scores show. You can tell shit is flawed when you have 3 - 5 truly kick-ass designs and no one has a congregate score over 6.5. Stinks in here, eh? :321GFY

Score keeping by the accounting firm of Dewey, Cheatem and Howe!

Ya - there is no way any of the designs rank below a 4 - a couple of them are straight 8's no problem (zexy & mafia spring to mind)

Hypo 06-08-2002 08:39 AM

You're right - simply deleting cookies allows you to vote more times. The voting script concept was good, but that's got to be the least cheat proof script ever - especially for working with adult webmasters who are the most uptodate with cheating methods :/

alias 06-08-2002 08:43 AM

yeah thats kinda fucked i got to re-vote just now and didnt even
delete my cookies etc

Hypo 06-08-2002 08:50 AM

And getting multiple IPs isnt difficult either. You can either dialup multiples times on a dialup account to get a different IP each time, use proxy servers/hitbot, or use a zero frame on your high traffic site to simply setup people to vote for you. The only way to prevent that would have been to only allow pre-registered members of GFY to vote, which was what was originally planned.

Zayne E. 06-08-2002 08:53 AM

What they should have done is something along the lines of assigning a user/pass to each person who wanted to vote (GFY members, obviously) then after their vote was cast the user/pass became invalid. ONE VOTE it said somewhere?

This is more fucked up than the last Presidential election :1orglaugh

LoveAsianChicks 06-08-2002 09:02 AM

I think to vote you should have to enter your GFY login/password to verify your a member here.
After you vote your username is blocked from voting again.

If someone votes with more then one account it can be traced easier then with a cookie system.

Also the contest should be for GFY members, not open to the entire web.
Not that I care too much since I didn't send in a tour. But next time use these ideas.

If the contest was/is flawed... Hold the prizes...
And re-do the contest... No new designers can enter and the same pages will be used for the voting.

And yes I think some of the RULES were broken.
And I voted a 1 for the ones I thought broke the rules.

Makes No Diff. if I knew who they were, I voted just about along the same guides lines that "Kimmykim".

If it was as flawed as some of you think, and now I do think it was, it is not fare to the designers nor the people that
were nice enough to give the prizes

Cyndalie 06-08-2002 09:33 AM

When will the winners be announced or notified?
