Always Good for a Laugh: Reading the Real Estate Ads in USA Today
I cant belive that people are actually paying $995/acre plus for ranch land in Wyoming. For those of you who have never been out that way, this is flat land with nothing but grass. No trees, no hills, no privacy and often no water. No electric service and no wired telephone. Nothing.
I paid ~$1200 an acre for my land in OK and I have no electric or phone within 6 miles and a 4WD only road. But I do have marketable timber, several very nice places to build with scenic overlooks and privacy. I didnt spend all that money to buy a fucking pasture.
Just look at the prices these fools are paying! And on top of this, there is a homeowners association with dues of ~$200 a year (to maintain the gravel roads... fuck... I can have whole truckloads of shale brought in for not much more than that...) and a whole shitload of recorded restrictions.
Jesus Christ, dont people know this type of land is still avaliable for $100 an acre if you know where to look? Hell, I could buy an entire fucking section (640 acres, one mile square) for the prices these people are giving for a single lot. Hell, the going rate on eBay is even much cheaper than this.
I think I am gonna buy up the next section I can get my hands on, have it surveyed into 40, 60 and 80 acre plots, hire some local rancher to bulldoze a dirt road along the lines and fucking take out an ad in USA Today. I could pass up Jimmy Buffet in a matter of a couple years!
