how often do you use smileys in ICQ conversations ?

and if you're using them every second sentence, then how do you feel about the person who never uses them at all , even in a long convo ?

I hate the new icons on icq. but basic icq sucks anyway. Miranda or Trillian is much better i think. I dont give the smilies to much attention at all. They are just there and i dont really care for them :)

It depends on who I'm talking with. If I'm getting bugged I do the LOL and a wink.

:)

actually... the smiley I use the most is :)

I guess I use it just to make the conversation more friendly or to show that everything is ok

I was accused once of being hostile in a chatroom conversation by a moderator when I was really only joking and being sarcastic. Something he told me stuck. Text is two dimensional.

Because of that I use them frequently to express emotions that may not be clear otherwise...especially to people that don't know you well.

If the other person doesn't use them? I always give them the benefit of the doubt, so that doesn't bother me either.

Yeah same deal. I add them so the person knows I am friendly and liking what is going on. Text tends to come across as harsh if you don't as the person might not know you well and is defensive just do to that.

But I also always assume the other person is happy when typing. It makes the convos flow better.
