BEWARE - overhaulmedia.com
This is a prime example of why I dont pay designers before the job is done.
I hired www.overhaulmedia.com to design my MMA web site last week. After a couple days I got a concept design and it was alright. By Friday I had asked if I could get a splash page logo and discussion forums up by the end of the night so I could those rolling and begin working on them. He agreed. That night I checked, there was a splash, no forums or anything. I didn't hear anything all weekend. I told them I needed to see something done by Monday night because this was the 2nd time I was told something would be done by a certain time and neither time was met. So, over the weekend I changed the domain name to something I felt would be more unique to the business. Nothing much has been done anyway so what would it hurt. Then when he finally gets online today, he starts giving me shit saying he doesnt work weekends, he doesnt take orders from anyone and unless I pay him 30% hes going to sell my design to someone else. Then the guy gets sarcastic and makes jokes laughing about it all as if I'm being a dick and he doesnt trust me. This guy is a tool, if you hire him to do a project for you, good luck getting it done. BEWARE - overhaulmedia.com :321GFY |
did you lose money? that sucks
|
No, I didnt lose money. Just time. But to me, time is money.
This guy is a complete joke. I'm just really pissed I wasted another 5 days on another tool that calls himself a designer. |
Fucking asshole.

time is money. Sorry buddy.

I gave you a great price. I dont know why I did not check your past on gfy here. It looks like you're always looking for the cheapest 'great' work and complaining about it.
I'm not sure why you would assume what hours I work without asking, I think mon-fri 9-5 would be a smarter assumption. If you were not so rude and made me think I was going to be ripped off it would have gone alot smoother. I asked for 30% of $600 after a concept design was completed. I dont think this is crazy, I realize I should have not taken the project if I was weary about it in the first place. I apologize again for it not working out. |
Sounds like a typical designer. Who can chime in to this song...
Missed commitment, time line, due date.. It's goes hand in hand with the Hoodini's a number pull. You give them the down payment cash, or it gets close to the deadline, and they disappear from ICQ, e-mails not responded to, and so on. :disgust |
I'm sorry, but your reasoning is bullshit.
AdultDesignKings created all of my sites at Insomniaccash.com before ever even asking for a dollar and when they job was done, they were paid in full. As a matter of fact, I tried to pay them after the second site and they said not to worry about it until they were done. I've never once ripped off anyone. The only reason a number of you designers want cash up front is because of your weak work ethics and you know if you get money up front you can slack off and dick around taking as much time as you want, you were a prime example of this and then used my frustration as an excuse to try and screw me. You played yourself, not unlike the majority of other hustling designers with more talent than brains. It's sad really because you aren't bad in design, but your attitude and slacker mentality is your downfall. And yes, I'm always trying to find the greatest talent for the least amount of money, it's called smart business. Get a book and read up on it. |
team31 is not recommendable either

But after a few run ins with the slacker bums, you are more willing to pony up for the bigger designers. But it's annoying when some of those chaps fall into the same thing. To be fair, some designers have been burned on here. If you've followed GFY for any length of time there are countless stories of designers being ripped off before being paid. Or have had their client flake out as the project is 50-90% completed. So I can't blame them for wanting something down. It's good protection for them. As time is money for EVERYONE. I do not have a problem with a down payment. I have a problem with them not meeting commitments. If you need a month versus two weeks fine. Be honest about it upfront. I will be understanding even if I want it done sooner, but you do good work. Just do not try and bullshit that you can have it done in that time, and then pull the designer whodini. :321GFY I am actually to the point now that the next big project I have will be tied up via a contract. I've already talked to my lawyer about drafting something for future work that ties up both confidentiality (so it can't be resold to someone else) and making sure that time commitments are made, or there is some recourse. I even have discussed bonuses for finishing it eariler. Being a cheapskate is nice to try and get ahead when you are starting out. But you will learn quickly that it is not always the best policy. For me, I am no longer willing to go through the hastles with some flash in the pan whodini designer that holds up my business when he goes on his week long benders. I need things done as specified because there is normally a lot of other things in the background waiting on them to finish. :2 cents: |

30% down isnt a big deal in my book... but not meeting a deadline is the thing that pisses me off the most.
i understand designers that take their time. i want them to be creative and free thinkers. dont tell me 3 days if you need 3 weeks. |
Sorry about your bad experience :(
Hit us up next time you need work done...... :thumbsup Quote:

i cost a bit more than some guys who do batch encoding. i loose jobs sometimes because i hear "so and so can do it for $5 less per dvd"... i just tell em to let me know how that goes and hit me up if they need anything in the future. |

It they are someone with a long standing good rep to me it is insulting to ask them for a down payment... :2 cents: |

There is no excuss to be more the 24 hrs off the deadline.... I say 24 hrs because we all know things do happen, but when they do 24 hrs is plenty of time to get it fixed.. :2 cents: |
Look at the date, Then read no-spec.com
|
I hate it when programmers or designers have this 9-5, or rather 12-2 attitude. I'm still in search of someone really reliable...
