What are the best spyware/adware removal programs?

My laptop is eaten up with all kinds of shit and I can't seem to fix it.

So far, ive ran Spyboy S&D, HiJackThis, Adaware SE Personal, Smitware removal, and a microsoft windows advertisement removal kit. They cleaned alot of shit, but im still getting random popups, system is eating serious resources and lagging horribly.

I have been working on cleaning this shit for days now to no avail.

Nasty. You might have to wait for the antispyware updates to catch up with whatever bug you've contracted.

Webroot's SpySweeper is the best rated program.

I've had good luck with Pest Patrol

Try spy sweeper, the 14 day trial version allows you to eliminate your problems, unlike others were you must buy to delete results, not in this case!!!

I have Windows Defender installed. No problems so far. It's free.

Also, if you're looking for a free antivirus program, try Clamwin.

AdAware works

I haven't used this in a while but try
housecall.trendmicro.com (online scanner)

Stop using microsoft explorer (at least when surfing porn). The illegal scumware comes through the activeX technology. Get firefox. Firefox doesn't use activeX technology and I've never had one problem with scumware since using firefox.

Webroot Spy Sweeper and Sunbelt Counterspy are typically the best ones overall, with CounterSpy able to find and clean up approx. 46.10% of all spyware, and Spy Sweeper finding 46.43%. I would definitely suggest that you get more than ONE anti-spyware program? if you have windows defender + either Spy Sweeper or Counterspy, you are going to find 60-70% of all spyware on your computer with little to no problem.

Ad-Aware! No doubt about it... It's free to!

Tullian Zombie 07-16-2006 05:42 PM

AVG and AdAdware. I also have Hijack this and CWShredder but rarely use them because AVG and AdAware seem to do the job a-ok. I still run Hijack and CWShredder once per week just to be anal retentive about everything but each time they report that my system is clean.

Building a better mousetrap:
I'm still waiting for a genius programmer to create a program or script that if your system detects malware, not only does it eliminate it, but it seeks out the offending party and then sends a terminator-like robot named RoboBubba to stomp the shit out of whoever is behind it.

Yeah, I'd pay BIG money for that!
