Are there really aliens from outerspace?
Well, what do you people think?
I say of course the universe is to big for there not to be, but I don't believe they are among us. |
Quick Lens - shut down this thread before the earthlings find out that all porn on the net is controlled by us aliens.

OK if I was going to make a firm yes they are here argument it would go like this.
First, there have been too many sightings to discount them all. This means they are out there. Second, we don't hear about it much so the government must be covering it all up, and are most likely in collusion with the aliens. Third, they are getting us ready for the introduction of aliens by slowly adapting us to the idea. Ever notice on the TLC of Discovery channel shows about UFOs that they always add 10 minutes of new footage and info at the end that is really convincing??? Plus I have seen some pretty weird shit... |
Yes... and the bastards always leave right before it's their turn to buy a round of drinks, too.

When I was in the military I used to know a fighter pilot who flew F-86 Sabre's during the Korean War. He told me that he had, on more than one occassion, had UFO's flying along side of the mission he and others were flying. In other words it was not only him that saw UFO's but other pilot's in the flight. He said that they were under orders to never fire upon these UFO's but to attempt radio contact. Radio contact was never established and the UFO's never acted in a hostile manner. These UFO's were not saucer shaped but were described as being "cigar shaped".
Since then I have seen on TV other reports by Korean War pilots who have stated the same thing. These UFO's have never been explained away, to my satisfaction, while other sightings have been. My oldest son and I (when he was about 12) were fishing late one night when a reddish orange light appeared in the sky and flew in a horizontally across the sky at a tremendous rate of speed and then just as abruptly blinked out. I suppose it could have been a meteor but the horizontal flight would seem to rule that out, or another thought I had was that it could have been a fighter jet with its afterburner kicked in. The speed of it would seem to rule that out, but it is difficult to judge such things at night. |

A few months ago, Nightline featured a cosmologist who said basically that the idea that we are all there is (as far as life goes) should be given due consideration. Even if there is life elsewhere in the Universe, it's an unimaginably big place and if it's so far away we'll never know about it, it's effectively nonexistent. Still, with incredibly sensitive listening devices, operating for many years, we've never heard a signal organized enough, and yet with sufficient complexity, to be attributable to intelligent life outside our planet.
Reports of alien aircraft flying alongside our own? Well, I met some people once who claimed they were from Mars. They said it had a red atmosphere and fields of grain. What am I saying? You can't believe something merely because someone reports it. You need independent verification. Today, we know that Mars has no substantial surface life, and certainly no fields of grain. As for reports of alien spacecraft operating in our atmosphere, it begs credulity to suppose that these craft (often seen in groups and formations) don't communicate with each other. The most likely form of communication being radio communications of some sort...and yet while we "see" these craft, we never seem to hear them, raising the possibility that what we see is either imaginary or illusory. Personally, I have two computers running the SETI@home program, so I'm helping to find any evidence of extraterrestrial life, and I hope we do, but I really don't expect it to happen in my own lifetime, or ever. |
UnseenWorld:
Tell me more about SETI@home. This is the first I have heard of it. Where can I get info? I agree that the chances that we are being visited by aliens is not viable, because even the speed of light is far to slow to travel the vastness of our own galaxy, let alone the vastness of the universe. I also believe that the pilot I knew was not lying, nor some of the other pilots I saw on TV, which included airline pilots. I don't have an explanation for what they saw nor do they, but I believe the explanation is not aliens. |
Look at what all from the original Star Trek has come true!
So in saying that, who is to say aliens coud NOT fly faster than our minds could grasp with engines 200 years away in our own future. Let alone their 'space band', our things couldn't intercept that... shields? Radars etc no see the ships. A seventh grade science teacher asked the question in my old mans clas... there are two forms of energy. mater and???? He pops his hand up and said anti-matter. lmbo And of course the whole class were rolling. Recently he found the science information that there IS anti-matter. Should have seen him track down that teacher and call him. This guy remembered all of his kids just about... so when H said anti-matter EXISTS,, the teacher called him his name. :thumbsup He said he had read the info and had thought of that day when everyone was laughing and felt bad. We'd be making ourselves awfully self important to think we ARE alone and WE are the more advanced. :1orglaugh |

Of course, this is based on what we know. Aside from some mysteries, seeming paradoxes, and unknowables, we seem to know most of what we need to know to describe physical reality. To cross the vast distances of space, you'd need more than faster than light travel, you'd need MUCH faster than light travel. Unfortunately, from what we know about the achieving the speed of light, the power required to advance in speed increase exponentially with the desired speed. No object could ever muster the energy required to reach that speed. I think the prudent person doesn't base his beliefs on wishes and remote possibilities, but on knowledge and what's most likely. |

SETI@home's homepage is at http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu I know several people on this board do it. Basically, it's something your computer can do during idle time, like a screensaver. |
Offcourse it is !
im from Mars. |
I just refuse to limit the things that technology WILL do UnSeen :winkwink: When anti-matter was first talked about they had made it up for science fiction.
And most scientists didn't believe the quark existed. lol |
I like what UnseenWorld said.
Governments covering it up? Hasn't history shown us that governments are not very good at covering things up? If anything, governments have a history of overstressing the dangers of the word, not understressing. Were Russia and the US hiding from their citizens knowledge of the other country developing nuclear weapons during the 40s and 50s or propogating it like mad and using it for political means? Aliens visiting us? The little grey men? So, somewhere out there live evolves and develops the technology to the point where space travel is possible and behold! Let there be light! They are humanoidish bipedals with heads on top of their shoulders (larger than ours. Must be more brainpower) with two eyes and a mouth. It's also interesting that the first photographs of UFOs are ridiculous. Most look like thimbles and reflections of light in windows to me. Occasionally a pie pan lit on fire and thrown at night. We laugh at the old 1940s-style UFO pics and we should. Over the past 40 years, the pictures have become much more sophisticated, in line with how much more sophisticated technology on this planet has become, in line with our cgi and other techniques. Are we to believe than an alien civilization 1000s of years ahead of Earth technology-wise is developing at roughly the same technological pace as us? There were thousands of documented cases of abduction by demons pre-20th century. People were always getting abducted when they were in the woods. Now, the 21st century version is alien abductions. Hell, maybe they are really happening and it's the same reason. But is it aliens or demons? They might be out there .. but not here. |
And all the people claiming to be abducted and having sexual things happen to them with probes and the like? These people have issues, don't you think? Alien rape? Someone start a site.
|
For the record, anti-matter was discovered long before Star Trek, in the 1930's.
|
I believe Nasa will find life on Mars (if there's liquid water found) and on Europa, one of Jupiter's moons, which they believe there is liquid water under about 12 km of ice. Not intelligent life, but bacteria.
|
Europa is a really interesting place to look.
Why bacteria though? Why should life based on DNA evolve elsewhere? Why not RNA or who knows what? How many molecules might possibly provide the solution to "self-replicating molecule"? Unless you believe in the "seeded from asteroids" hypothesis but then you still have to account for where else it is coming from and why there? So you need a self-replicating molecule .. that must be part of the definition of life. It could go anywhere from there. It seems that lfie has only evolved once on life and that all life forms currently on the planet are evolved from that one life form. One abiogenesis event in 5.5-6 billion years. That's pretty damned lucky. I would think we should bet against it happening on a close neighbor. |
Colin:
One of my son's insists that abiogenesis has been successfully performed in lab experiements. I have never heard that it has been and seriously doubt that it has been. Do you have any input on this subject? |
alian living her allready..look into the white house
|
Am a time traveler.
And that's how all these aircraft (AKA ufo's) travel. |
abiogenesis has definitely not been performed in a lab. He may be referring to the Miller/Urey experiment which was performed in the 1950's. What they did is to run an electric charge through a composition of gases believe to be similar to the early earth's atmosphere. Organic COMPOUNDS were formed; basically amino acids, etc but not the creation of anything we would call "life".
I don't think there are many researchers working on this kind of thing. Seems like such a long way to go. |
Colin:
I am familiar with the experiment you referred to and I was certain in my own mind that abiogenesis had not been accomplished. Actually I thought that a non reproducing living cell of some type had been produced in lab experiments. |
Actually I thought that a non reproducing living cell of some type had been produced in lab experiments.
---------------------------------- Produced from what? |
Colin:
From later experiments conducted along the same lines as the Miller/Urey experiments. I thought that life of some type had been created, but was short lived, and was non reproducing. |
Pathfinder,
I feel very certain that using the same sort of methods as Urey/Miller or anything similar that no researcher has ever produced an organism that we would call life. After that classic experiment, researchers were very excited that abiogenesis might be right around the corner but all research afterward has been dead-ends. This is really not surprising for our knowledge of how genes make organisms is pretty sketchy, even today. I think we've learned we're not just going to mix some stuff together in an oversized beaker and get something we would call life. Earth is a damned big beaker and has been playing the game for billions of years and has, apparently, only succeeded once. Of course, once we can perform abiogenesis in a lab, people will probably say "that's not a biogenesis" .. that's directed creation of life, or something like that because we will have to learn the mechanism for how it works and setup the conditions such that they are favorable for abiogenesis. |
