The Real Costa Rica... Fucking Awesome [PICS INSIDE]

These are some shots from my latest trip to the Pacific coast. These were taken in Quepos and Manuel Antonio which is one of the top National Parks in the world. Must-see-before-you-die kinda shit. (Click to view hi-res versions)

This is the view from lunch at a place called La Mariposa... This was probably the best view in the whole trip.

Took a private tour and the guide had a terrestrial scope... Put the camera up to it to get this one.

Awesome beach at Manuel Antonio. Water was about 78 degrees, perfect.

Chilling on the beach at Manuel Antonio with a friend...

A shot just off of Jaco Beach.

Another shot from the scope... A happy sloth with fucking 7 inch talons.

lol Monkeys in the garden.. that rocks until a Howler monkey decides to mate at 4:30 am... Sounds like a dog on crack that got hit by a car lol... Fucking really cool though being in the jungle. Hope you make it to Quepos, it rocks but get ready for no cell phone and really slow internet... For a while anyway. Who cares if you're in paradise though right?

pornguy 07-15-2006 12:16 PM

Great photos. Post some more if you have them.

fuzebox 07-15-2006 12:41 PM

I spent a weekend under a tree full of monkeys once, was just fucking annoying... They would not shut up all night, I barely got any sleep.

Spanish is the main language here, but rarely any problem if you don't speak it.

If you have an EU passport, no visa is needed and you can stay of 90 days. If you want to stay longer than 90 days, there are two options, - get an extension, but can also, eg, visit Panama or any surrounding country for a minimum of 72 hours and enter Costa Rica again for another 90 days etc.

Prices are very cheap in comparison to the EU :)

You know, I went to the immigration office, before my residency was filed, and tried to extend my 90 day vistors visa. They told me I couldn't extend my visa because it was already the maximum length granted. Kinda sucked.

Hey webby - can you hit me up - [email protected]

I have a UK passport but I dont want to use it...... so I have to use my NZ passport which is fine - but I only have a 30 day visa, rather than the 90 day.

I dont mind a trip every 3 months, but every 4 weeks is OTT. Am I going to have to marry one of you guys or what? :)

Seriously - if you know any Kiwis, let me know...

Thanks

Is there such a thing as "maximum length"? :) Never heard that one yet.

I gave up on them a while back WarChild. It was far easier to spend a while in eg Panama than waste time with govt departments :)

Doubt they really have a clue about what they are saying anyways.

The other channel is dump your passport on your lawyer and tell him to sort it. Never had any problems that way, but hell knows how long the lawyers messenger had to stand in queues waiting for the ear of God :winkwink:

Not yet but hear the beaches are the best there.... The only negative thing I heard was that the roads there are really bad... They were actually really good getting to Manuel Antonio

Hola Damian - OK.. real life is not necessarily what the rule book says .. there are ways and means :)

First is... depending on how far you may be from the Panama or Nicaragua border - that could only be 20 miles down the road and no biggie. eg.. if you are on the Pacific coast (prob most likely).. you can drive to Panama and enjoy 72 hours on the other side of the border (costs very little) and enter again for a further 30 days.

Second is... ignore the 30 day stuff and just stay as long as you like. They are not exactly pro-active at chasing ya - and even if they did, $50 goes a long way :winkwink: I'm still meeting people who have been living here over 10 years and still have not formalized residency etc.

Third... tho more boring, is apply for an visa extension.

Fourth... there is another way which I won't say here :) Basically you never move, but somehow end up with a record of having travelled the world and your visa is in order.

It really depends on how long you want to stay here. If you want to live here for a good part of the year - it's prob worth getting residency where you can come and go without problems. There are several ways to do this and can simply be in the formation of a corp here (varies, but seems to costs around $600 - $1000 ish). A decent lawyer (read, one who knows members of the govt blah) here can prob sort both corp and residency for around $1500 ish.

I'll check if gay marriage is OK here - but I don't think it is yet :1orglaugh But yes, marrying a Tico girl is an avenue to residency - tho that may end up costing far more than any formal channels :winkwink:

You got ICQ running Damian? It's prob far quicker to use that and try and cover the options?

kaktuz 07-15-2006 04:20 PM

Awesome, glad you the pics... yeah it is incredible here.... been living here for almost 4 months and am totally loving it. Living in San Jose this time of year you tend to forget how sunshine feels so going out to the coast was simply awesome. Hope you make it here soon
