Important Info For US Cell Phone Holders

Quote:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR YOUR CELL PHONES

REMINDER ...16 days from today, all cell phone numbers are being
released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale
calls.

.....YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS

To prevent this , call the following number from your cell phone :
888-382-1222.

It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your
time.

You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You
cannot call from a different phone number.

It blocks your number for five (5) years.

HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS
This, for once, is legit.

US cell phones work differently than German ones. We get our minutes charged on incoming calls as well.

OMFG...I am too tired for this shit...by this shit I mean reading

haha

i think when they say that they mean that your minutes will be used...they can't really charge you for incoming calls

woj 07-15-2006 08:48 AM

you don't really get charged for these calls, but they would waste your minutes, so you would have less airtime to make other other calls...

Just Jace 07-15-2006 08:49 AM

this is actually real though you all, but you dont have to call that #, you can just go to the site and enter your #'s in there...it is a government run thing, hence the .gov extension

it has been going on for years now, it is nothing new

we got put on that list like 2 years ago

woj 07-15-2006 08:51 AM

apparently you can register mobile number on this page -> https://www.donotcall.gov/register/Reg.aspx so there is really no need to call...

woj 07-15-2006 08:51 AM

damn Just Jace, lol, we are thinking exactly the same for some reason...

It seems like there is a new regulation going live in about two weeks though... no clue if it will help, but I sure don't want them fuckin telemarketers to call my celly.

SirMoby 07-15-2006 09:00 AM

I put all my numbers on that list and calls went from a couple a day to none.

FTC.gov links to this site. So I assume it is real. I entered my cell online.

I used to be a telemarketer, it was fucking great to!

Claim: Cell phone users must register their numbers with the national "Do Not Call" directory to prevent their cell phone numbers from being released to telemarketers.

Status: False.

Despite dire warnings about the imminent release of cell phone numbers to telemarketers that continue to be circulated via e-mail year after year, no such thing is about to occur,
nor do cell phone users have to register their cell phone numbers with the national Do Not Call registry before a soon-to-pass deadline to head off an onslaught of telemarketing calls. The panic-inducing e-mails (which circulate especially widely every January or June, since many versions of the warning list the end of those months as a cut-off date for registering cell phone numbers with the national Do Not Call registry) have grown out of a misunderstanding about the proposed creation of a wireless directory assistance service.
You got had.:upsidedow

So, although the gist of some warnings are correct in alerting consumers to a proposed directory of cell phone numbers, they are misleading in stating that such a directory will "soon be published" (the word "published" implies making a printed directory available, which the wireless consortium maintains they will not do) and in directing readers to sign up with the The National Do Not Call Registry. The latter step will not keep wireless customer listings out of the proposed Wireless 411 database ? it will only add their phone numbers to a list of numbers off-limits to most telemarketers, a step which is premature (because the Wireless 411 directory has not yet been implemented) and largely unnecessary (because the Wireless 411 directory information is not supposed to be supplied to telemarketers, and because FCC regulations already in place block the bulk of telemarketing calls to cell phones).
