Back from Family vacation in Vieques, PR... (pics)
 

Even though I'm trying to make my life a permanent vacation here in Puerto Rico, I thought I'd take a vacation within a vacation and take the kids to the puertorican off island of Vieques...This is the island that the Navy used part of to have practice bombing runs...Everybody was against the Navy doing it and demanded them to stop..The Navy concedes and then closes the base which fucks thousands of jobs and lowers the economy...

So I decided to visit and see if I liked the island and I LOVED it...Very charming place..My kids loved it too.


So here's the beachhouse where we were staying.

Wild horses in the front yard..If you can catch one, you can keep it..there's plenty around.

Nice island BVF. Pity it's totally fucked up by the US military when they used depleted uranium and left it with toxic pollution which has been estimated to cost around $400mill to clean up.

It's also a pity that the cancer rates of the local community are now 30% - 26% above the average.

Avoid that nice beach and swimming - it's could harm your health. They are still trying to locate and remove unexploded bombs.

The good news(duh?) is... this operation is now moving to the Nevada desert so that's the next fucked-up location.

Looks like a great place to vacation. What does a property like that sell for. Any idea?

one, I don't live there..I was just visiting..

two, they bombed on a remote part of the island nowhere near where I was..It's a pretty big island...I know for a fact that it's bigger than all of the virgin islands combined.

three, there's tons of beaches, there are no unexploded bombs around where I was

U should have paid an extra 200 and gone to St Tomas.. PR is one nasty place.. I've been there 5 times and it sucked every time.

My aunt lives there, has for about 12 years now I believe. She does reality, so let me know if you are seriously looking to move there. I'll get you in touch with her to find you some nice property.

I've been there 7 times I think, maybe 8? Last time was with the gf and there were portugues manowars washing up on the shore all over the place. We saw a bunch (like 10-12) off the beaches by Esperanza and Sun Bay all washed up and tangled in the seaweed. As well as one which washed up on shore right past us as we were swimming off the west edge of blue beach.

We woulda been fucked if it hit either of us, especially me. Bleu beach is pretty far out from town, and she didn't exactly know the way back to town. Plus I'm not too certain of their medical capabilities there.

St. Thomas is a shithole...If it WASN'T a shithole, I would have moved there instead of puerto rico...I LIVE here in PR right across the water from Vieques and there is no way in fuck PR is nasty unless you're talking about San Juan.

Fuck, I was at the ababor suites on that map..Thank God I didn't get hit by one of those..I didn't even see any...But I did step on some flat coral with small needle like protrusions and I had to pick two of them out of my foot.

Thank GOD I didn't see that shit.

I stayed in Windham Villas (or something like that.. I know they changed owners now) on the other side of Island? and drove all around PR because I was bored off my ass and did not see a single beach that would match St Thomas, St John or Tortola..
have you ever seen honey moon beach in St. John? I was looking for diving spots as well and PR had none.. Nothing that would be of my interest.

Simply gorgeous! I am in love with that beach house!

I forget what month it was that we went. But there is like a 2-3 month span (off season) which they are abundant. We were there right smack in the middle of that season. Something to do with mating patterns and ocean flow which pushes them right into that area.

There's TONS of beautiful beaches in PR..If you're looking for surfing, it's best to go to the west coast...I don't know a lot about diving since I don't do it, but people say that culebra has some of the best diving in the world with lots of visibility...Here is the beach off of culebra, which is another off island of PR.
