I was quite impressed with the USA team. They attacked well. Tending could have been better and might be a problem especially with Korea.

Hmm, dominate? Um okay. That said, I was might proud of our performance against portugal. We only drew against Korea but that is better than losing.

England, however, beat Argentina! That, my dears, is a MUCH bigger scalp with much more history behind it.


I have said in the past to my British friends that my generation (I'm 25) is the first to grow up playing football (soccer) in school. Also, most of the people on that team were getting into the football about the time we had the World Cup. I say give it about 12 years or so and we will be at the level where we are dismissed out of hand at the start of World Cups.

However, there is no way we are going to get better than every other nation in the world unless we start eating, sleeping, and breathing football like so many other countries do. We all know that isn't going to happen.

Also, I think the success may have something to do with less of the American players playing in exhaustive leagues around Europe. So many of the players on the other teams have come off of very long seasons from the various clubs they play for the rest of the time. Beyond basic tiredness this also breeds injuries..that is something the UK knows much about.

Agreed Hammer........but isn't it nice to see the good OL USA play so well in the worlds #1 sporting event,a sport that no one really cares about unless you are a rioting hooligan?

How can the USA not dominate most sports... we're like 5 times larger then most countries. yet when it comes to celebrating or cheering or whatever we seem like the smallest country...

Of all the teams playing, only a few are from third worlds. Europe & Asian teams are not living in a third world and South American Countries are not classified as third world.

Well my sport is basbeball but it is hard to really follow it from this distance. It is on tv once, sometimes twice a week but in the middle of the night and never a team I care about. They are always west coast teams because of the time difference. Which is great for those people but not for Philly gals like me.

I played footie when I was a kid and my sister is just plain awesome at it (coaches now but was very good at school). It wasn't until i moved to Europe that I saw just how it dominates so much of the life outside of USA. I can't even say North America cause Mexico is footie mad too. I truly love it now and whats more I love knock out competions in general. So, the world cup is the perfect combo for me.

all i know is when the wc was in the us, our little town hosted the brazilian team (los gatos, ca), and man, those bastards can party. every single day and night fans took to the streets getting all hammered, dancing around and shit with soccer balls and clothes flying around everywhere. this was every single day and night for over a month. partay.

Only 4 years ago USA lost to fucking Iran....

So I reckon US is far way from being a world soccer dominator....
