well that's not a bad view, becaise I think if you're in there you are looking at the floor :)

what's equally creepy is that the brain would still be able process images for a few seconds after one's head is chopped off. so it would probably be possible to see one's own severed neck/body and watch the room spin as the head tumbles to the floor

ouch. that's scary. i think i would be freaked out if i saw one of those in person.

There is no proof of this. It's not like we can re-attach somebody's head afterwards and ask them either :1orglaugh

Actually there was a doctor studying these things and he said that once, he witnessed a beheading and he called the persons name right after and the eyes looked at him then they closed... i seen that on discovery channel.

Well there is scientific fact of this, One thing they know is being quartered is the most excruciating painful way of dieing, They say that when all 4 of your limbs are detached, the brain can feel this and for some odd amount time after it happens the brain is suffering massively.

I heard something very similar, that the brain functions for 7 secs then it's lights out... :(

Undoubtedly an urban legend. Without lungs, your vocal cords won?t work. There has to be air pressure to open them, and without lungs? well there ya go :)

You have around 12-15 total seconds of maximum 'brain activity'. However, the question is do you actually have 12-15 seconds of cognitive awareness, or does the sheer force from the guillotine render you unconscious instantly? Most believe the latter, some however do believe that you could have self-awareness for up to 15 seconds.

Since when is getting your limbs torn from your body the same as getting your head CHOPPED OFF? Those who lose limbs in explosions undoubtedly feel the same pain as those getting drawn and quartered, although probably not immediately as the shock from all the damage wouldn?t be registered because it would be too much for you to handle at once. There is a huge difference from getting your limbs pulled/removed from your body than your head being sliced off in an instant. There is *NO* scientific proof that after that much instant trauma that your brain is able to ?feel? anything, after losing an entire body. As stated above, your brain can stay self-aware for around 15 maximum seconds after beheading, though it?s almost certain that the guillotine renders you unconscious in the process, thus essentially you are dead instantly. On the same token, since we can?t re-attach a head and ask the victim afterwards if he/she felt it, it?ll likely just remain an urban legend until some crazed scientist manages to pull it off.

I wouldn`t like to be there, but at least is a fast dead!

I saw a live show once where they got this girl and decapitated her in front of everyone in one of those things. Of course it was some sort of magic trick or something, but still very cool/weird too see.

They normally turn the prisoner face down, so that they dont have a heart attack and die, before the blade hits.
