The all-new Coupé bodyshell clothes the twin-turbo 3.0-litre engine in the new BMW 335i SE that develops 306hp and 400Nm of torque between 1,300 - 5,000rpm. With such performance statistics, the 335i forms the pinnacle of the new 3 Series range.

The 335i SE Coupé accelerates from zero to 62mph in 5.5 seconds, and, if left unchecked, would travel on to an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph. This level of performance is made possible by two turbochargers, each supplying compressed air to three cylinders each. The use of two smaller units ensures that the turbochargers react more quickly to changes in the throttle position all the way to the 7,000rpm red line while also eliminating the previous scourge of turbocharged engines ? ?turbo lag?.

The turbocharged engine is also considerably lighter than a normally aspirated powerplant of equal power. In the case of the 335i, the new twin-turbo six-cylinder engine weighs approximately 70kgs less than an eight-cylinder engine of corresponding performance. This weight advantage benefits both fuel economy and weight distribution.

Very nice machine - performance figures seem odd. Must have used small twin turbos to only get 306bhp, lag should be very low though. Leaves it wide open for the performance aftermarket though - providing the engine block and internals hold up someone will be slapping something bigger on in no time.

The 'old' M3 coupe does cost 87.000EURO here....Not sure what the price will be of the new 3.35 tho....BUt I think cheaper than 87.000 euro

In terms of 0-60 the old M3 is likely a tad fasterr - but people dont drive 0-60, 0-60, 0-60.

Im guessing with the twins, the first turbo will start to spool around 2k rpm and both will go online around 4k rpm - I'm guessing here lol.

Anyway, the mid range punch of this car should out perform the old m3, at least judging by most of the twin turbo set ups ive driven. And this is the area where the majority of people drive on a daily basis, so it should be bags of fun.

The old m3 3.0L was pretty maxed out as it was - you really would find it difficult to get more than 343 bhp out of a 6 cylinder without going "grenade tune".

what a cool ride.

I talked to the dealer here in Lauderdale and they said the new 335 coupe will be out at the end of the year.

I am thinking about trading up for the new hardtop convertible coming out in February. The car is so awesome :upsidedow
