My Dilemma with a Model
 

Several months ago I met with a model who was working at a strip club here in Australia, we got talking, I told her what I did and the sites that I own and she was interested in doing some shoots for me, she had been wanting to get out of the club scene as she had only been their for a few months but hated and liked the thought of doing something like my site, the thought of not having to hustle with men every Friday and Saturday night and be groped and have drinks spilt on her and the constant offers from men for sex and all the other bullshit, so doing photo shoots in a great environment with me appealed to her. I told her to have a good think about it for a week and try and think of as many questions as you can as I do with all my models, I don?t want them to do something that they are going to regret later on in life.

The model called me a few days later wanting to shoot and also had a friend that wanted to shoot, which I was not really keen on as I had not meet her friend, but I said bring her along anyway and we will discuss it when you arrive. They both arrived for the shoot, I was not really keen on shooting her friend as I did not really think she was attractive, but they wanted to shoot together, then her friend decided that she did not want to shoot just as we were about to, so I said fine, no problem you can wait out in the lounge, there is a tv ect there. After the first set of shooting the model in question her friend decides that she now wants to shoot, talk about changing you mind a few times lol.

Anyway to cut a long story short, the shoot turned out perfect with both models and they wanted to shoot again, everyone was paid and everyone was happy. In the meantime whilst the model has still been working at the strip club one of her old school friends has seen her working at the club, now she used the same stage name as we have on the site, now her entire school where she used to go when she was a kid has viewed my blog and wanting to see more pictures of her and more video of her, there would be around 40 requests.

The last message left on my blog was from her sister:

I have tried to call the model in question since yesterday to have a chat to her about all this as I feel bad for what?s happened, but at the end of the day, she did sign the model release and was paid for the shoot on the day. The model has not contacted me and has not said anything about this matter, but just getting that message on my blog from her sister makes me think that the model will contact me soon and demand her content be taken down or something.

What would you do in my position, would you leave the content on the site as you have paid the model and she signed the model release or would you take the content down as you only have 10 sets of her and you know very well that you won?t be shooting her again. I could be just jumping ahead of myself here, she may not even care about this, but I would just be curious to know what you would do in this position.

I had a model we 'shot' Monday and she's looking for adult work wants to fuck her boyfriend on camera and everything then pulls the shy routine, not sure how far she wants to go because of her future singing career (yeah right) is all pissed when I ask for her ID "Why does everyone want to see my ID, thats fucked up, so they can track me and what I did in my past, I hate the fucking government"

Jesus lord, Des & I just rolled our eyes and packed our shit, waste of time.

(Meanwhile, shes also freeking out because she cant find a stripping job for the week)

you have a signed release 2257 ok and IDs, yes offcourse Id leave the content up. Happens all the time, they nag yrs later they want it down cause bla bla career boyfriend hubby.

They can, let them cough up for the loss of profit, legally her sig and docs are there. Out of all the models who said they were gonna seek legal help none has sued so far. Theyre all full of shit cause any lawyer will them they signed a legal document thats binding.

I'd leave it, bussiness is bussiness. U gave her Lots of time to think about it.
And besides, after something like this happens, everyone must have sved her pics and made pps or other stuff with it... she is pretty doomed anyway...

Personally Batts, I'm a little more of a softie then most people in this industry, I would prolly take it down off the blog and use the content elsewhere, either sell it, or use it within a member section, or something. In hopes you can impress her and continue to use her and her friend for other projects. But I dont know her, on the other hand if she dropped off the earth well then I guess keep on keeping on buddy.

I think sellling the content really defeats the purpose of taking it down, as it will still pop up on the internet if i sell it.

I would keep up the content, you have model releases, etc. The model has not contacted you asking to take it down. So obviously she does not care, if she did she wouldn't be working in a strip club anyway. She is use to people seeing her naked.

take no personal interest in the models, treat them professionally, shoot the best stuff you can and move on . . if posters are an issue, delete the post, make sure all yer bases are covered with the releases and 2257's on the shoots . . if a shoot becomes a problem down the road, consult with yer lawyers, dump the shoot and eat the modeling fees if need be . .

I have shot 1600-1800 models and this is my experience . . . and one, more small thing: ALWAYS control yer shoots. when a model tells you that she is bringing a friend, just say: 'hey I'd love to meet yer friend however I can't shoot her until I get approval from my partners, if I do shoot her maybe I can use you guys together, but either way you'll get the referral fee etc . . . AND: I shoot on a closed set . . . be glad to meet anyone ya want however photography is not a spectator sport . .

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, EVER let a model dictate the terms and conditions of a shoot, if pushed I say this: as a professional photographer I shoot under my terms only. thank you for understanding.

every shoot I go into, I look for ways to break the shoot . . one small prob or inconsistency and I start backing out of the shoot . . I only have about 2-3 probs a year if even that many, I think 2 last year, maybe, 1 dumped shoot this year and one BF problem but that was a day after the shoot. a few years ago I dumped some shoots cause the models started arguing with me about the Polaroid's that I take for each shoot . . pics I use for the files, I also have the models 'show me their tits' for the Polaroid's . . this tells me right away way kind of model I'm dealing with

btw a model once told me her BF found my blog and looks through it everyday to see if she's modeling again . . . no big deal, I just put the images in a members area . . I've seen models beat to shit by the BF's for 'various offenses' just something to consider if yer gonna be a shooter

The first shoot I ever did was with a photographer who later sold my sets on various content sites. I'm on the header for fattyfarm.com and on the signup form for another site. Am I happy about it? Hell no. Firstly, the fact that any asshole with a credit card can get my content and, more importantly, my ID due to the secondary producer 2257 changes, really is frightening. Secondly, it dilutes my own site's exclusivity. Thirdly, I like to be in control of how my images are used, and I'm completely not now-I don't even know where they are all used.

BUT, do I hold that photographer responsible? No. I should have asked more questions before I signed the release. I read it, but clearly I didn't understand it all, so I should have made sure I did before I signed. My fault. So I deal with it, and know better for next time.

You can't save the world, Batts. You go above and beyond to ensure your models are sure about the choices they make. Once the pen in is their hands, the choice is there too, and you can't be held responsible for the consequences of their own decisions. I understand where you are coming from, but I don't think you should feel bad. Obviously one of those two girls talked, and that's on their heads, not yours. If they didn't want anyone to know, they shouldn't have told anyone.

i would understand being soft if she only did it because she was hard up for some money to pay rent or a starving college student or whatever, but for god sakes Batts she is a STRIPPER.

Real simple. If she wants the content taken down, she needs to buy it. At minimum she needs to give you your money back and pay you for your time and material.

If you haven't used the content to promtoe your site yet offer her too pay you back + $500 for your time... Say she can do this in like 5 weekly payments.

There was a time when I would have taken it down. But as the internet expands and more and more models are found it's just not possible to remove all of them without gouging the entire members' area. I no longer remove a damn thing. If the photo is in a free area I'll sometimes change out the model's photo with that of another model. But I am usually not in a rush to do so.

The model releases I use are very extensive and tell models upfront that they're going on the internet. They have to initial and sign that they understand.

If I was you I wouldn't remove it. Perhaps you can change the photo for something less revealing (if the photo in question is revealing) but I wouldn't completely remove it.

but seriously: we had these issues before. our modelrelease says that we will not publish the content in Czech Republic to protect the girls. but since this is the interwebs, sometimes it leaks through though, like FHGs for example that some czech idiot lists on his free photo site and every second czech guy goes there. so sometimes girls get found by friends, parents or whatever.

some come to us to complain - although we told them before it can happen. One or two told us they will never work with us again, although it's the sponsor that puts up the galleries, not us. now the girls work with another shooter that shoots for the same sponsor - so you see that all this stuff is way too complex for the pea size brains of most of the models.

if you are covered with your docs keep the content. or tell her a price to buy it back.

I'd either leave the content up, or insist upon full compensation for content and time before taking it down. This will probably sound harsh, but doing so might help her learn responsibility for her actions.

you paid her...she signed the forms...dead issue, keep it up. Why throw away content you paid for? It's not a smart business move.

Talk with the model and see what she says.

Personally, I would leave it up if you won?t shoot her again anyhow. It is a business deal, you paid they performed.

I say yeah, OK, so she turns up about half hour later, has a few outfits with her, one of then is nurse, and can I at least take a few of her, stripping out of that? Well, where I was I had various sets available, so off we trot down the long corridor to the room with the 'gyno table in it' half way down the corridor, I realize we are being followed by this hulking great fucking brute of a guy, approx 7 foot tall, and knuckles dragging in the carpet... I'm informed by the girl that this is her boyfriend, whohahaha8217;s just come along to check shehahaha8217;s ok...

Well, we are at the gyno room by now, and its only tiny as it is... and hehahaha8217;s like just stood, taking up more room than me and the girl together, completely in the way... i politely explain to him, that I cant shoot with him actually "IN" the room, but if he wants to take a seat outside, just around the corner, he will still be within calling distance should she need him, etc etc etc and please fuck off... Belligerently, he agrees and disappears.. Anyway the girls brand new, and slightly nervous, so to put her at ease, I begin shooting away, and lavishing lots of compliments etc, flash, yeah, thathahaha8217;s it flash, wow your great, flash, natural, pure natural, etc etc... After shooting about 50 or so shots, without even really focusing, she starts to loosen up, and we get going for real... Thathahaha8217;s it, take your top down a bit, flash, donhahaha8217;t wanna see nipps just yet, flash, squeeze em together, and Ihahaha8217;m now paying attention, and in order to get the shots that would do her the most justice, Ihahaha8217;m slowly stepping backwards towards the door, to get her all in, and suddenly...
Ihahaha8217;m flying backwards, my brand new 20D is heading up into the air, away from me, and just as i realize whathahaha8217;s happening, i feel the mother of all pains in the back of my head, and then a white flash... Before... Simply nothing...

OK, so at this point, you may well think ive been mugged or attacked or similar ? Nothing could be further from the truth.... Infact, the boyfriend had decided that in order ti 'watch the shoot' it would be a good idea to crawl along the floor like a snake, and was actually on his hands and knees, in the doorway.... Needless to say that was the last time, that I didnhahaha8217;t have full control of my set... and unsprisingly... It will NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN !

Hi Batts! I've often wondered (in my non-content shooter ignorance) why a two week wait period isn't practiced. Maybe it is. It just seems like when you shoot the young, 18-21 year old models, fickleness goes along with it. Maybe if they're required to wait a couple of weeks to think long and hard about it, the ones who are uncertain would bail out before causing you headaches.

Personally, what is removing it going to do? I mean those people have seen it, probably saved it, and all know about it. The damage is done.

But if she wants it removed, I'd sell it back to her. Offer a fair price for what you paid her along with whatever money it will cost you to remove.

Only take the content down if the model is willing to give you back the money you paid her for her time.

2 weeks waiting after what??

after the shooting? do you really think shooting content would be worthwhile if you had to wait 2 weeks after each shoot to find out whether the model still wants that or not? after you spent your time and money on shooting her?
