Seriously, can any rock singers hit a good note anymore?

Seems like the big trend these days is out of tune lead singers....when the fuck did this become the standard?

Bdiddy 07-12-2006 12:49 AM

When music executives realized that stupid kids would buy any bullshit they put on MTV. Why give real musicians record deals? Just create a "band" out of a bunch of flunkies who will do and say whatever the execs tell them to.

Double L 07-12-2006 01:00 AM

death metal screaming type stuff or more mellow rock?

Ok, let's start naming names. :)

ER!C L!VE 07-12-2006 01:17 AM

Prolly started with Curt Cobain. Did you hear him on "MTV: Unplugged"? Changed the face o music back in '91.

Kimo 07-12-2006 01:52 AM

note? note? what? dude, no. music with "good notes" does not exist anymore

Sarah_Jayne 07-12-2006 01:59 AM

I have noticed that most of the singers that make it to the top these days have a very limited range. No doubt there are some bands with singers with talented vocals out there but the limited range style seems to be more popular at the moment. I am a punk fan so I don't mind a bit of 'out of tune on purpose' singing but on the other hand when you listen back to voices like Freddie Mercury you realise how talented he was as a vocalist.

Yngwie 07-12-2006 02:01 AM

this isn't "new" but the singer of Steelheart put ALL new "rock" singers to shame.

Yngwie 07-12-2006 02:08 AM

he's the one that did all of the singing on the movie Rockstar

Howard Jones can sing quite well.
Get Killswitch Engage - Holy Diver [Dio cover] to see his true talent.

MFXumeroth 07-12-2006 05:36 AM

Bruce Dickinson - daaahh
Rob Halford - daaah
Andre Mattos - Shaman
Tobias Sammet - Edguy

There r TONS of others who still rock, but I guess those ones r on top.

Exactly :thumbsup

Jace 07-12-2006 07:09 AM

I guess I should have been more clear....

I know there are TONS of kickass new groups coming out, but I am talking more of the shit you hear on the radio and mtv....all the same shit with a different (sometimes same) package

My take on this is to not listen to the fucking radio if you want to hear good music :)

The singer from Slipknot can both scream and sing very very well as evidenced by Stone Sour's "Bother".

well, we have a great station here called 99x...anyone that has been to atlanta knows it is a great station, so we listen...but they can't help but throw in the obligatory new rock song every now and then, and I can nevfer tell the artists apart

here is 99x's recent playlist though, they play a little of everything:
