Google keyword pricing

Anyone notice that their keyword prices on google have gone through the roof? ie, within the last 24hrs.

Thrawn$ 07-11-2006 12:28 PM

yep, it goes up

i think the price is lower when you're landing page is optimized & related to the keywords you buy

Dollarmansteve 07-11-2006 12:35 PM

that can happen when a new advertiser comes in with a higher bid and better CTR

gooddomains 07-11-2006 12:38 PM

it's totally insane

From $0.30 to $12 in one morning? Kinda extreme.

bdld 07-11-2006 01:19 PM

it just means you have competition. happens all the time.

DigitalPimp 07-11-2006 01:29 PM

This is due to them reaccessing the landing pages. I have seen CPCs skyrocket overnight on many different keywords. More info here:

Tom_PM 07-11-2006 01:52 PM

I'm calling my rep now to ask that mine be looked at specifically and have the min bid reverted on my account. (which is whats suggested)
10 cents to 10 dollars when my ad links direct to a tour and is more relevant than existing ads should cause them to revert, regardless of ctr.
let us pray....
lol

Doctor Dre 07-11-2006 02:07 PM

Their system is getting fucking complicated... omg
Adwords will almost be a PPC search directory.

JOHNNY_BUTTHOLES 07-11-2006 02:08 PM

i love when you have absolutely NO competition for a keyword, and they STILL raise the min bid

CamsLord 07-11-2006 02:08 PM

supply and demand

RF Simon 07-11-2006 02:13 PM

there's a chance their "quality score" puts a larger weight (and therefore lower price) on content rich tour pages vs direct to join

That said, the long term trend in my experience has been lower price/more volume.

How longhas the ad been running/what CTR have you had on the particular query?

Tom_PM 07-11-2006 02:36 PM

I'm running reports and compiling my spreadsheets before I call.. I'll be positive that they raised terms I need to profit from before I argue for reinstatement. Makes sense right? lol

How long have they been running? All year at least, a few months more.

vanillaice 07-11-2006 04:32 PM

I would like to give a big fuck you to Google for fucking me over with these changes.

Does anyone know of any other good PPC sites? I will suddenly have an extra $4-5k a month to spend if google doesn't straighten up.

SwirlsGirl 07-11-2006 05:52 PM

that is some serious bull shit, I have noticed the same jump from 5 cents to 10 bucks for a key word! Un real!

yeah the last 24 hours my dating words became inprofitable due to a double up in price.... sucks...

Quagmire 07-11-2006 06:42 PM

wtf is going on with that? A shitload of my keywords went through the roof last Friday and started climbing today as well.

diggz 07-11-2006 08:04 PM

Theres a huge thread on this at webmasterworld.

I'm experiencing the same thing as everyone else. Pretty much every campaign keyword got shutdown with minimum bids of $1-$10 to reinstate them.

Doctor Dre 07-11-2006 08:05 PM

They should start focussing on click fraud instead of the rest of the bullshit...

Tom_PM 07-11-2006 08:33 PM

I dont like paying for access to messageboards. Can you summarize it, diggz?

Registration to the messageboard there is free. Their "subscription" I believe should be re-labled as "donation."

To summarize. A SHITLOAD of advertisers (big & small) are experiencing this same thing and it is due to google's landing page quality update. Nobody seems to think Google will correct it either :warning

Tom_PM 07-11-2006 08:41 PM

Ah ok cool, thanks.

Beejeebers 07-11-2006 08:43 PM

I love paying $12.35 for a click... :(

teksonline 07-11-2006 09:18 PM

They'll keep bleeding it till you guys complain.. They're scapegoat is saying their system can't handle all the keyword impressions, this is pure bullshit... if it's getting no traffic, then how can it be a performance problem?
it's just their way of ripping you blind, getting maximum cash for no competition / meaningless traffic.... Also why should they get to force $1.00 an ad click on mega keywords like "free porn" which there is a reason noone has bid on them, it dont fucking convert, so it's basically implying a system thats ensuring your business to fail... real nice of them to offer you a advertising system created for doom.

You demand a system where you can spend .05 on any keyword or boycott... simple as that.. Good Luck

studiocritic 07-11-2006 09:32 PM

how much would you guys pay for a script that cloaked your landing pages for the landing page quality bot.. so you'd get cheaper minimum bids?

studiocritic 07-11-2006 09:33 PM

(i have already coded it, and have been using successfully this system for a few months.. at the nudging of my awesome adwords rep, she shared some info)

studiocritic 07-11-2006 09:51 PM

I just checked a campaign that has around 8000 keywords that is using this.. this recent change, I saw 2 keyword increases.

Both keywords have never had a single impression, in 6 months.

And the minimum bid went from 3 cents to 20 cents.

bdld 07-11-2006 10:04 PM

looks like it hasnt affected me as bad as others. i still have a + ROI today, but i have lots of bids to change because of this so i can keep it that way.

diggz 07-11-2006 10:12 PM

Stay tuned... every time I log into adwords, there are more inactive's added.

Ace_luffy 07-11-2006 10:18 PM

business is business...... damn google.......

bdld 07-11-2006 10:26 PM

im trying to decide right now whether to increase my spendings to conform with the higher prices - or start deleting kw's.
