What has queen elizabeth accomplished in her 50 years on the throne?
 

Can someone list some reason why we should be recognizing the fact that the queen has been the queen for 50 years? List some of her accomplishments please, because I can't think of any.

She hasn't really done anything. But then she isn't supposed to. The monarchy is just a figurehead. They only stay around because the PEOPLE like them. They like the whole idea of the monarchy. I'm not against the monarchy nor am I for them. Being a foreigner, I have the right to be ambivelant. As long as the public think having the monarchs around is a good idea, here they will stay. Doesn't anybody read the papers. They've been full of answers to this kind of question lately.

Being royal means she knows an awful lot of people with cash. So..

Shes moves a huge amount of money towards charities every year both for the UK needy and for other needy causes. Through parties and events and whatever the number of zeros on the checks is staggering.

She does an incredible amount for business. Whenever she visits countries she's visiting car plants, universities, high ranking biz people and is apparently very effective in an ambassador type role in getting them to part with their cash. A knighthood here, a royal seal for your product there, it gets around.

Countless billions in tourism.

The reasons for having the queen kicking about were answered for me above. Tourism is a major one, and Phillips fuck ups should be encouraged, then there's the charity/financial side and also the fact that yep, it's traditional. What's wrong with tradition? There's many people from 'new' countries who'd love a bit more tradition themselves :winkwink:

The Royals are good for England. England would not be the same without the Royals. I was amused when one of our news media people asked an English news media person if it is allowable for an American to say "Long Live the Queen".
