How do I get someone a domain name as a gift?

I've been browsing lists of expired & available domains for last few hours & come across one that I think would be great for a particular webmaster & I'd like to get it for this person as a gift.. How do I do that?

I know I can register it using their whois & open an account with the registrar & just give the recipient the registrar account info, but what about my credit card info.. I don't want that in the account??

buy it with your account, then create an account for them and push it?

good idea.. I gotta see if that's an option with this registrar, otherwise I need to use godaddy or directnic for that

I'd just open a new account, register it under that account and give them the account. Or just register it and transfer it to them

Directnic has a thing called DirectBucks where you can "fund" your account and draw from that for payment. A couple years ago I helped someone set up a site who didn't have a card at the time they could use, so they mailed a money order to Directnic and made the purchase using that. Best I remember it took about 3 days after mailing for it to be credited.

if they have an existing godaddy account you can use the change account feature and "push" it to their account for free
