If the USA had Won the World Cup all you anti soccer peeps would suddenly love the game and agree or admit to it being the best sport in the World !

I don't care what sport you follow or watch but please do not ever compare
any other sport to the #1 sport in the world !

ContentSHOOTER 07-09-2006 03:42 PM

Relish XXX 07-09-2006 03:45 PM

The USA hates football because they are 100% shit at it. They should seriously hate baseball as they lost that as well.

Kristian 07-09-2006 03:46 PM

If the UK won I still wouldnt give a shit.

elron 07-09-2006 03:47 PM

soccer will never be popular in the u.s . main reason is that this game has no breaks for commercials breaks . it's 90 minutes of one half break during the entire match , unlike basketball , football , hockey , golf - they all have many breaks for commercials :2 cents:

Mr. Soul 07-09-2006 03:47 PM

You're 100% right.

WHY ? because when the US Women Soccer Team won it was big news in
the USA, saw them on the letterman show CNN etc..
Women soccer hardly makes the news even in european soccer countries.

Euro Myth #1:

Football and Basketball are not popular because they have commercial breaks. They have commercial breaks because they are popular. No one in the US would spend money to advertise on a sport that no one was watching. (Soccer)

Euro Myth #2
Football and Basketball athletes should never be compared to soccer players. Its not fair to the soccer players. The biggest, fastests, strongest, quickest soccer players try out to be field goal kickers on College football teams. Some make it, most dont.

Explanation: Professional athletes seriously develop their skills at a young age, most likely high school. At most US high schools, thousands of people from the community go to the high school football game on Friday night where the cheerleaders cheer, the band plays, and the stands are packed. The newspapers and local news cover the stars of the games.

At those same high schools, the soccer games are played the following saturday morning with no one but the players parents there to watch. They play on saturday to keep from screwing up the grass on the football field before a game.

In europe, the best athletes grow up playing soccer. In the US, the best athletes play primetime sports.

Just curiosity... Where did you live here (Brasil)? Do you have a favourite football team over here?

Where do you live righ now?

So a sport which has 3.2bn watching the final compared to 130 million for the Superbowl isnt primetime?

Jesus you cant accept the fact that football is the biggest sport in the world and that is a 100% fact.

whatever, even you have to admit if every country played NFL or Basketball
and the USA would then Win the World series or superbowl it would an amazing achievment and worth celebrating.....but they dont...basicly the whole World plays soccer and to win the World Cup means you are the best
in the whole world at a sport the whole world plays, not just a sport that's played in your country !

Advertising and sponsorship deals for the 2010 and 2014 world cups have already sold out. The packages started at $150 million. Obviously Visa, MacDonalds, Nike etc have wasted their money backing second rate human beings.

Funny how if all Football players are weak that America tends to suck when playing them.

you gotta understand American Football is an AMERICAN sport, Soccer is a WORLD WIDE sport, so compairing numbers is not even close... the number of americans in america, who watch NFL superbowl, is a better ratio then the number of people in the world who watch soccer...

Wow, that has to be one the stupidest things I've ever read. Yeah, no one watches the world cup, that's the reason there are no commercials. And no American corporations pay hundreds of millions of dollars just to have their logos outside the field.

I love it when clueless people think they're sharing their brilliant knowledge with others.

Another lie. Over half of the planet wathces or listens to the world cup of soccer. Our superbowl does not get 150 million viewers.

Are you really this stupid and hateful or is it just your GFY persona?

Ah.. so pro rata populations are OK for sports, but don't apply when talking about paying money and claiming to be the "world's givers"?? Nice to pick and choose :winkwink:

Basically football is an international sport with followers (and vested financial interests) in the billions. Nothing wrong with American football - as you say, it's a national sport. Trying to compare a country with less than 5% of world population to an international sport is pointless.

The world classic is nothing but exhibition.

Most if not all the good players play for Major league baseball anyway

Winning the World Cup would GO A LONG WAY in making soccer more popular in the USA. What I don't get is why it's not more popular in the US since manykids have soccer programs.

shermo 07-09-2006 05:07 PM

I just hate watching sports, period. I like to watch football, and that's just to follow my fantasy football players.

Hell.. I played a sport 18 years, played at a D1 school...And I even hate to watch that sport.

i don't think that would stop them , they can use such things as virtual advertising , where they can inject advertising emblems onto the pitch during transmission

then they would use other shit like scrollers

Mr. Blue 07-09-2006 05:21 PM

Nope don't like soccer, even if the US won the world cup I wouldn't like soccer, when the women won their little soccer thingie, it didn't interest me at all, unless playboy managed to get them to pose nude or something.

So, most people in the US don't like soccer, who cares? Just because billions watch soccer and enjoys it doesn't mean everyone has to enjoy it. It has nothing to do with commercials, it has nothing to do with anything other than, people in the US culturally grew up learning sports like baseball, basketball, American football, etc and its what the naturally gravitate towards.

E$_manager 07-09-2006 05:27 PM

that was 100% true. well said.

pocketkangaroo 07-09-2006 05:28 PM

No one in the US gives a shit about soccer. Even when they got to the quarters in 2002, reruns of baseball games were getting higher ratings. I know you all seem to think we don't care because we suck, but the truth is we suck because we don't care.

Our best athletes don't play soccer. They play basketball, football, or baseball. The kids that play soccer usually end up being the ones that couldn't handle football or had protective parents who wouldn't allow them to play. I'd argue that it's the 6th choice in terms of what a kid ends up playing.

If our best athletes didn't play football, baseball, and basketball, we'd be holding that trophy every 4 years.

Most soccer programs are for the very young though. By the time they are old enough for Pop Warner, they usually move on to football. Soccer is also a predominately suburban sport and the inner city athletes are almost exclusively playing basketball.

Dirty Dane 07-09-2006 05:30 PM

But this is more about the emotions, the mood of the WC!
Personally i do not watch games when it is not a World Cup, but WC unite people, you feel like thr game is what people all over world are interested in.
There is nothing like that about Olimpic Games for example.:winkwink:
