This movie fucking destroyed Superman Returns. Pirates of the Caribbean made $55 million in ONE FUCKING DAY!

With Saturday and Sunday to go, AND the fact that the kids are home for the summer, this movie may make $150 mill this weekend AND be at $300 mill by end of next weekend considering everyone will be going to matinees ALL FUCKING WEEK!

Agreed, it broke the all time one day box office opening record and MIGHT break the weekend record too. That cliffhanger shit really sucked though. That's what might kill it at the vine this weekend or early this week.

However, the special effects were so outstanding you have to go back and see it ten times just to see everything.

It has the all time 'EWWWWWWW!' factor for a movie though. It was sooooo fucking gross I could barely eat. They realize we're trying to eat during the movie but the evil pirate crew's makeup was so fucking gross and horrid if I was a kid I would be having nightmares for years.

The comedy was fine but the audience didn't cheer like in an Indiana Jones movie. The audience was rather let down at the ending and of course there was the 'wait and watch all the credits to see the surprise credit ending' thingie.

So it's fuck yeah worth seeing just for the special effects and that makeup on the characters. There is no other movie that can come close to the makeup in this movie. That fuckin Davey Jones octopus head thingie was so outstanding nothing else comes to mind except the first Planet of the Apes because the makeup was great but the actors knew how to work that shit to the point their characters became believable and enduring.

Fucking A. Go see it for the special effects, horror, makeup and humor.

I see your point, Carlos. But it takes about $100M and a fat promotion budget to compete on that level. Maybe indie niche films would do better..... with the rise of digital cameras and easier PC-based editing systems, I'm sure an outfit with less capital can crank out the movies. Just gotta have a tight distribution system.

I haven't seen any of these movies but I caught the tail end of Johnny Depp's biography on TV. His contract is to do three Pirates of the Carribean films so your hunch is right.

What do you mean Hunch? To anyone who has seen the first and second parts, it was quite obvious there was going to be a third part. And I really disagree with whoever said it was a let down for the audience. In my 30 stadium theater place, the audience was always 100% into it and in the end they were so surprised that they all started clapping as if it were a Guns N Roses concert. After the movie there were like 5,000 people standing outside and talking about it. Reviews on that site aside, I have heard nothing but positive "Empire Strikes Back" comparisons..

Most movies that are assumed to be blockbusters have a midnight opening. X-men, Superman, etc. I do the midnight Thursday movies all the time. It doesn't give Pirates 2 any special advantage.
