not sure why anyone would use that tag in the rss feed, but it screws up certain scripts

With content:encoded you can put html in rss feeds.
If you use content:encoded the rss validator will give you a warning, cause using content:encoded is mostly not done the way it use to be done.

they're supposed to use cdata.. they should catch up with 2004.

see where the html starts? then see where the content:encoded starts? the content:encoded starts later than the html
