People matter far more than much else. Superfluous material stuff like the latest car etc has little to do with "actually" living. Only my :2 cents: worth - and probably simplified a lot. There are two types of people - takers and givers. A taker knows no bounds and appears to live for self-gratification 24 hours/day. There are "takers" everywhere - even in stuff like a commercial partnership/shareholding scenario. Kinda funny in a way - they are like small birds with their mouths open asking to be fed :winkwink: Flip side is "givers" - there are some massive givers around, but most have been like that all their lives. Often they live fairly modest lifestyles, despite having millions or billions - or very little. Hard to say, but inclined to ally with the givers - not least because they generally are also "doer's" and appear to be more constructive. |
I live for the good times with family and friends, and for the achievement of life goals.

You ask a very profound question, Rui. It is a basic question on which whole ECONOMIC and SPIRITUAL/PHILOSOPHICAL systems are based on and are fought over.
MOST of religion is based on the idea of TRANSENDENCE...of living for something other than yourself. This may arise from a HIGHER REALITY that is greater than the individual OR (as some might argue) the greater SELFISHNESS of the group over the individual. There's still a debate among scientists whether such a thing as REAL altruism (altruism for organisms that don't have your genes or even belong to the same species as you) exists... Regardless, when we die, I can guarantee 99% that we will be evaluated and REMEMBERED by the larger society (outside our group of friends and family) not so much for what we did for ourselves but but for what we did for others. One thing is clearer though.... in terms of economics, living for one's self yields greater and better results than living for others. Just compare CAPITALISM with COMMUNISM and you'll get my drift. |
living for my family is living for myself
|
Others first, I take a distant backseat to anyone I call a true friend. If I had a dime left to my name, my friend knows he has a nickel of that if he/she needs it.

for others - my familly and parents. And very often i want to die, but keep liveng for them.
|
myself. but if people love you, then you are kind of living for them, too, because they would be really upset if you died. i suppose.

for us : the love of my life and me, in that order :)

When all I do is work and sleep, which, having been a workaholic since I was a kid, has been most of my life, things work out pretty well. I'm not sure that is living for myself exactly, there just isn't anyone else around to worry about.
The few times I have taken a stab at a "normal" life I have maybe gone too far in the other direction, putting whoever I'm with way up on a pedestal. The results have been dismal, so I don't recommend doing the same :) |
for others.. my familia

I don't know. I guess I live for myself in the attempt to show others (important people in my life) that i'm not a total fuck up. I guess its better then any other reason. You need drive and desire and thats gotta come from somewhere.
|
I doubt many people that said they life for themselfs actualy do so..more like they are slaves of certain habits, addictions,etc..
|
i live for myself then second for my loveones! it will always start to yourself... like respect!
