Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago and our nation was the most prosperous in the world, had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world and only one parent had to work to support the family.

100 years ago they weren't paving millions of miles of roads. Installing new traffic lights, offering the poor public schooling, supporting people that got hurt at work... etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc

But yeah taxes suck.

The US has always had debt. The last part of this is wrong. We never paid off the revolutionary war.

minusonebit 07-06-2006 09:44 PM

The United States is a nation built upon and continues to exist by debt.

manilaheat 07-06-2006 09:50 PM

Go and live in a third world country were no one pays taxes for a little while.
You will understand why we pay them ..

Kimo 07-06-2006 10:12 PM

hell, for about 100 years until 1975 it was illegal for the American people to invest in gold, all you were allowed to own was personal jewelry, and a personal coin collection, no bullion...

After Shock Media 07-07-2006 04:26 PM

A little FYI, some of the telephone taxes were challenged all the way up the court chain and ruled illegal. Larger companies get this money back and or do not pay it anymore.

Yet the phone companies keep charging the taxes as per Government instruction. The Government knows it is immune to a class action suit so they must be fought individually. Sucks eh?

And no I do not feel like pulling up the info on this, those who are that interested can dig it up.
