Net Speak - Languages on the Internet
The most-used language on the Internet is English. Although the total number of native English speakers in the world is about 322 million, English is spoken as a second language by almost 200 million people around the world.
They make their contributions to the Internet in their own language as well as in English. Chinese is the most spoken language on Earth, and the second language on the Internet. The Chinese population online is increasing at a high rate; this is expected to have a great impact on the Internet in the near future. Notably absent from the top Internet Languages is Hindi, one of the most commonly spoken languages of the world, as well as the national language of India, the second most populated country in the world. This is due to factors such as the lack of access to the Internet by the large majority of the Indian population, and a preference for English among those users who have Internet access. The Indian population online is also increasing at a high rate; this is also expected to have a great impact on the Internet in the near future. Given the nature of the underlying product we sell ("a blowjob is a blowjob, in any language") and the global nature of the web, I am still surprised that most webmaster stubbornly stick with English.
Our online cousins, the casinos, created multi-language versions of their product years ago... Hell, a simple Spanish flag/tour will do wonders to help convert that vast hispanic market sitting right on your doorstep! |

I did have the free area of my site translated into German back in 1999/2000 for a good long while. It seemed to help, since at the time I had a lot of euro traffic. But nobody complained when I dropped it.
As a contrast, Cams.com offers our sites in French, German and Spanish, and AFF offers many more language options for the dating sites. |
