eBay Revises Payments Policy, Forbids Google Purchase

Now, this is intresting.

The eBay Accepted Payments Policy has been suddenly revised. Be sure to click on the "Some Examples" section. You'll find that some very well known payment processors, like cardserviceinternational.com (CSI) are not allowed to be used under this ludcrious policy.

And guess what? Google Checkout is listed as one that cannot be used too. (So is ePassporte, heh).

Its really about time for eBay to get some meaningful competition.

I just don't get it. Does CT have an online payment program? Or are we talking stuffing and envelope full of 10 cent CT bills and mailing it out?

Splum 07-05-2006 07:50 PM

No no no....much in the same way they put Mapquest out of business.....?
No no no....I mean it must be the way that Okrut took over MySpace....?

Dear Google,

We just wanted to pass on a suggestion that we think Google should get involved in. And NOW the timing is more perfect than ever.

Google Auctions.

You already have the platform... and I think it would be a huge success. Ebay will be raising their fees as of Feb 18th and thousands are getting involved in "No Listing Week" on eBay from Feb 18-25th.

But we need an alternative... perhaps this is where our favorite company... Google comes in.

Please do it...

Sincerely,

I dont like Google much at all, but I was really looking forward to them giving PayPal a run for thier money. Both of them need some competition for the good of everyone.

But the best part is this:

Quote:

Sellers may not ask buyers to send cash through instant cash transfer services (non-bank, point-to-point cash transfers) such as Western Union or Moneygram.
Oh, and like Paypal, too? PayPal is NOT a bank though it operates [in violation of federal law] like one. Funny how its OK for PayPal to do it, but ePassporte is banned when they do it. And as much as ePassporte bugs me, I think its a safer place to put money than PayPal.

fuzebox 07-05-2006 08:05 PM

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh Canadian Tire Money :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

woj 07-05-2006 08:05 PM

interesting....

vvq 07-05-2006 08:23 PM

google sucks. none of their services are even innovative. do they dominate anything else other than search engines?

Paypal has been around forever. No one is going to be touching them. Look at all the shitty payment services out there. The only reason anyone uses anything but Paypal is to do transactions not offered by Paypal. To pay online casinos, adult shit, scamming, money laundering, etc.

notabook 07-05-2006 08:36 PM

So.. if you have an eBay listing and you list several types of payment accepted, you can?t list epassporte (and the others listed) as options? Like? you can?t say on there you accept Paypal, Money Order, and all their ?accepted payment systems?, then have ?Epassporte available upon request?. If not, ebay is a fucking nazi.

MaddCaz 07-05-2006 08:40 PM

the internet is absurd....

Epassporte isn't safe for consumers. Wait until someone scams you when you pay them with Epass. There is nothing you can do. eBay isn't pulling some nazi shit, they're looking out for the consumer.

ridikuloz 07-05-2006 08:53 PM

ah people will use them anyways.

I didn't ask about that in my post. I asked if you put PayPal first and said UPON REQUEST (i.e. BUYER has to ASK YOU for YOU to ACCEPT an ALTERNATIVE payment method) you will accept epassporte, would THAT be ok, or would they be a mother fucking NAZI and pull your auction. :) That clarify it any?

madawgz 07-05-2006 10:38 PM

wow, now thats harsh.......:( google will still be fucking huge!

sharp 07-05-2006 10:46 PM

doesn't matter to me. :P

True. An ebay keyword bot checks for banned keywords before approving your auction. I tried to post an auction with the word "moneygram" in the listing and it was rejected. Once the banned word was removed everything was OK. Funny sometimes the bot works and sometimes it doesn't.

I like everything about paypal except the fees. It's a lot slicker operation than epassporte. I consider epassorte a bit of joke really.

I think google is a bigger nazi regime than ebay though. Hate the damn sandbox.

Man that sucks hardcore. I don't use eBay much but every now and again I list some crap, and would at least like to give the buyers a choice as to what they want to pay by. I like PayPal to a degree as well, but I hate the fact they can freeze your account (and all funds in it) for 180 days with you unable to do shit. I just wish they hadn't sold out to eBay :disgust

Are you retarded? ebay owns Pay Pal which is know to illegally prevent people from getting their money. Hence why I never have any money in a Pay Pal account and very rarely use them.

fallenmuffin 07-06-2006 10:56 AM

eBay = Paypal, Paypal = eBay. It wouldn't be smart business for them to allow any processor. The processors they allow that they don't own they get kick backs from.

It's business.

JOHNNY_BUTTHOLES 07-06-2006 11:01 AM

They'll probably come out with some weird Skype / PayPal Integrated P2P payment system - thereby ruining skype (and opening the door for other p2p voip services). why the fuck else would that company spend that much money on a p2p voip service? yes, there's an ENORMOUS user-base. but just try to start embedding eBay functions in that software. you'll see a mass exodus.

fetishblog 07-06-2006 11:03 AM

Wow, where have you been? Ebay updated that policy to only allow Paypal as an online payment option for their auctions AGES ago.

And there are BETTER alternatives to Skype out there. ;)

Fallen! I almost didn't recognize you cause of new sig. Business is business, true enough, I just don't see why they can't allow their customers to choose which payment processor to use. Sure, make the seller have at least one of ebay's accepted payment systems (PayPal), but if the BUYER wants to pay with another service, why the hell not? It's because they are supported of communism that's why, eBay is a well known red organization.

If you can't get your money out of Paypal it's because you've done something stupid. I've had my Paypal account since 2002 when I was in highschool. I've pushed thousands of dollars through it when I ran an eBay store and a a subscription based website that used Paypal. I never had a single problem, EVER! Every single transaction dispute that was ever brought up against me has been settled in my favor. I've never once had money held. I don't know why you would keep money in your Paypal account anyway.

Paypal provides quality service and support. I don't know why people have a problem with them.

Lol, they renewed the sig so I updated the banner :winkwink:

Yeah, I see how it can be a pain in the ass but just think if they "force" PayPal on them at 2.9%+30cents ad god knows how many transactions a day. Thats millions 30cents at a time.

its being put together in phx, az right now.. the payment system is first then comes the free auction site....

it will take about a year to really get going, but i think they will take a lot of market share away from ebay....

Yeah, all the lawsuits and such were bogus. All those people that lost money, yeah, they lied. Or they imagined it. You're right, PayPal is a good company run by honest, ethical people with nothing but the best intentions. And if you belive that, I've got some ocean front property in South Dakota I'd love to make you a great deal on.

Jace 07-08-2006 04:28 PM

I sell on ebay all the time and accept epassporte and a few other of those banned services...when you create your auction you just have to use
E pass porte
or something like that

no one EVER uses them though, everyone ALWAYS uses paypal
