For the record, this guy is still severely messed up. I just watched a show about him the other night and with the exception of being able to speak (which is pretty much unintelligible to people outside his family), he's really not in much better shape than before.

He's still immobile, his hands have severe contracture, a lot of what he says you can't understand, and what you can, doesn't make sense. He has a daughter that was a baby when it happened, who he doesn't recognize now, and even though they kind of sugar coated it, he basically tells her on a pretty consistent basis how much he wants to fuck her.

I'm sure his family is thrilled for any sort of improvement, but the show intro-ed it like he was suddenly cured. It is surprising that he suddenly started to speak some after all those years, but it's not the miracle story that they make it out to be.

Terry Schiavo's brain cells were dead. This guy's cells were not dead.

yet another way that the human body baffles the medical world - hopefully they can find the way the brain started healing and help it along

Now if only they can figure out how to grow a brain from scratch - there'd be hope for two-thirds of the people on GFY.
