Thinking about leaving the adult industry...
I've got an unfinished screenplay (or three) that are screaming at me to finish up and shop them around. What should I do?

Are you still enjoying what you do in adult or are you feeling the need to achieve something different?

I guess it depends on whether or not you are having fun. That is why I stay.

mmmm adaptation...
wtf does this have to do with the adult industry? i think i should go masturbate. more like nick cage in something significantly earlier though :P |
Write in your spare time until you have a finished manuscript. Be sure to update that '91 screenplay to current narrative devices, dialogue patterns, and whatnot. Shop it around and see what industry-professionals think of your masterpiece. When you get your first check, then you decide what to do : do you stay or do you go?

Keep working on them on the side. I grew up in Los Angeles... almost EVERYONE is a screenwriter. So keep the day job until you complete one of your scripts.

For every accepted script there are probably a hundred denied. I guess thats answers your question... unless you're 100% sure about being a genius, but in that case you wouldn't have raised this question.

Just finish them at night, and try getting in the business slowly ? |
Do them both, but set time aside for working on the screenplays.
|
Don't let goals or dreams drift away slowly. Chances are that to achieve your dreams and live a life you love, the complettion or eventual resolution of those dreams are crucial.
|
Diversify and purchase income generating assets to finance your screen plays (passion) with deadlines. Focus on time management and deligate what is least important. Put it all into words and read it several times as you become what you think about most often. Plan your work and work your plan and remember loose lips sink ships.
Just needed a little motivation right? :) |
don't think the mainstream industry is any different then here, hype, inflated egos and connections. It is just bigger and more fragemented so it easier to BS.
A great script will usally always sell! However the other 98% you just have to find a home for. Try inktip as it is good barometer to dealing with producers and directors at least there you might find a good agent! Good Luck yo! |
dude.. do you see the color of your name?
youve got the best thing going over here in this world.. and this world is where alot of us live. :2 cents: |
if you are serious, get up 1 hour earlier every day and write. If you do that you will get them done and if you cant then reevaluate how much you really want it. Life doesnt have to be all or nothing.
|
hey bro I remember us talking about this, I say go for it!
|
the world needs more sitcoms
|
why don't you write a book?

write because you enjoy it - the odds of getting a screenplay bought are long and having it produced are much longer. established studios and production companies won't even open unsolicited screenplays/treatments - you hear about these stories where a novice writer slips a screenplay under a producer's door and the producer has nothing better to so he starts reading it on the toilet and is wowed by it and a star is born - one in a million stories. |

If you are considering leaving, it is doubtful that the only reason for such consideration is due to "unfinished screenplays."
It is likely due more to your yearning to accomplish things on a more creative level all together. Accomplishing things of passion takes guts. Most people would never leave their day job, they don't have the guts. Get in your car, drive south down the coast and leave what doesn't change behind you. Things which do not change always tend to be there anyways. |
hummmm, can you do both?
