Home gyms?
I'm looking to set up a home gym and was drawing a fucking blank on what to get.
Anyone have any tips on what I should get for it? |
A dumbbell set, a barbell and weights for it plus some clips, a flat bench, an incline bench, a pullup/chinup bar, and a dip stand and some heavy rubber mats for the floor would be a good minimal setup to do some serious lifting at home.

Bowflex product is pretty good. i have a buddy who has one and use it once in awhile when i dont hit the gym up. great workout, great pump from it. if i had the room in my lil 800sq ft apartment, id get 1 lol

First absolute must is the BowFlex dumbbell system, I've had it for a year and I love it. Heck, that's all I have and I can work every muscle..beats cables any day.

If you really want to get a home gym, at least try to get your neighbors and friends to use it as well, otherwise you'll literally be overpaying for nothing. I have a small home gym but let just about everyone who want to use it around here use it. The top thing I would recommend (easy on the ass for those with roids) is this little beauty right here:
http://www.exercise-n-fitness.co.uk/...s.asp?pid=1022 Mine is half that cheap and hurts your ass so bad, roids or not. If you get a treadmill, make sure to get one that has an automatic climb ability (that is, so you don't have to manually increase the elevation, machine can do it automatically). I have two treadmills, two cycling units, barbells, few other things (not a big worker with weights with arms, mainly legs here). |
I froogled for the cheapest store when i was looking to buy, i know the main store is a bit pricy. You can always start from the the set you want and build from their buy buying the add ons.

if you serious about getting bigger, gym is the ONLY way... all that bowflex garbage is for ididts, its just advertisement bullshit to make money... it's good to have some dumbbell so you can do maybe bicepts at home, but any other muscle go to gym u pussy :pimp

It's best to get a good free weight set, barbells, dumbells, a good workout bench that's adjustable for inclines, etc. Nothing works you like free weights and as long as you have proper technique you won't get injured.
Also, get yourself a few different cardio machines...it's just good to mix up what you do everyday so you don't get bored. I have a recumbent bicycle (they own), a treadmill, and a stairclimber. A must get....speed bag and heavy bag. Talk about stress relief, go to your gym, beat on a heavy bag for a bit, and all the stress is gone. |

Do your cardio workouts in the morning just after you wake up and before you've had brekky (best time to burn off fat). |

From my own experience, I can say that you will never get the same results at home. You'll get bored very quick with only a few exercises you can do.
But if you only need to loose weight, buy a bike or a treadmill and do cardio at home for 60-75 mins. daily. For muscle, go to gym. |

I have a kickass home gym, too bad im too lazy to use it :(
this is what i have in mine... -weight rack full of dumbells -heavy duty olympic bench (decline, flat, incline) -plain bench -preacher bench -squat rack -machine with butterfly, pulldown, ect. -dip stand -boxing bag -bike -treadmill mirrors all around and just got the bose ipod speaker dock. Only thing left for me to get is MOTIVATION. |
