Shoot with BF on set, thoughts/comment?

On the last little photo session the chicks BF/friend was there. It felt really strange and she was distracted, talking with him, or rather kept on looking to him. How do you deal with that stuff?

MaDalton 07-03-2006 05:50 PM

never in the same room

even better: not in the same building

tell him to come back in a couple of hours

BoyAlley 07-03-2006 05:51 PM

Yeah I think that's a huge mistake. Never allow spectators, even if, or maybe I should say especially if, they're boyfriend/girlfriend.

You're just ASKING for dramas........

Yea ah?! I mean, in theory I didn't care much... but it was distracting. Messed up a lot with the focus and so on.

We have no problem if a model brings someone along, but boyfriends are just asking for trouble, either they lend their 'input' or you find out later in the week that they cant handle it and your model goes byebye.

it doesn't work, been there, done that

she's distracted, she feels weird, she cannot let herself go... result is shitty

some guys start telling you what positions she should do and stuff like that - or tell the girls not to move this way, that way - whatever.

big mistake

only exception: boy/girl shooting with boyfiriend as male talent, but also that works just in 1 out of 10 cases

Back in the days, when I was working with talent a lot... they never wanted their BFs to even know... but now. Doing these easy shots (non-nude)... having the BF there just messes me up... was wondering if it just me...

100% agree with you on all of it.

MaddCaz 07-03-2006 05:59 PM

never ever ever

Mutt 07-03-2006 06:01 PM

don't allow it - even if the guy is a decent guy it distracts and affects the model's interaction with the photographer and the camera - u will get shittier work. it's a job - ask the girl if she is allowed to bring her boyfriend to her job at Hooters or Starbucks. he can come once to meet you - that's it - then go away.

minusonebit 07-03-2006 06:01 PM

Not a good idea. Closed set.

Doctor Dre 07-03-2006 06:04 PM

Definitly not ... That's just asking for trouble there.

Mr.Right - Banned For Life 07-03-2006 06:06 PM

I will never shoot with a boyfriend there, he can wait in the car.

However i have found when they bring a female freind with them, they shine more on camera beucase they are showing of in front og their friend.

zigx 07-03-2006 06:11 PM

yeah i wouldnt have done it

NoWhErE 07-03-2006 06:11 PM

I've seen a model flake because her boyfriend was pushing her too hard to perform... it was sad.

Even though I took the guy for a walk so that the photographer could do his job, the girl was so freaked out she couldn't do anything anymore

MandyBlake 07-03-2006 06:15 PM

i think you need to bring it up beforehand.
ask her if she is comfy with him there...or if he will make her feel inhibited at all. if she's ok with him being there and you are also, just mention to her that its cool with you if he's there but he needs to stay low key as to not interrupt the shoot at all.

The Duck 07-03-2006 06:18 PM

no way in hell

LiveDose 07-03-2006 06:20 PM

Avoid it at all costs. If she wants a girl friend there that is fine. Suitcase pimps/ boyfriends bring nothing but jealousy and suddenly they feel they have some type of knowledge or advice to offer.

Tell the model no boyfriend or no shoot.
