NEWARK, Ohio -- Law enforcement officials released videotape Friday of two teens who crashed their car into a house two weeks ago in Newark. Investigators call the activity hill-jumping, and said that before the crash, the teens sped up a country hill traveling at nearly 80 mph. The teens taped themselves driving at 100 mph before the crash, NBC 4's Mike Bowersock reported. The videotape showed David Mitchel and Andrew Glecker speeding on country roads in Licking County. Lynn Ashcraft was in her back yard and was injured when the teens crashed into her home, causing part of her chain-link fence to hit her. "I saw the chain-link coming at me with the car, and the car was still sliding sideways, and I was like, 'Holy cow. He's going to hit me,'" Ashcraft said. Mitchel, the 16-year-old driver, was charged with vehicular assault. Glecker was charged with complicity. "We're lucky that the teens in this particular crash were not killed, because we're seeing teens all over the country get killed due to this type of activity," said Lt. Rick Zwayer of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. |
