modeling agencies..

A (girl) friend of mine went to a modeling agency, they looked at her and they want to work with her. They scheduled an appointment for 100 shots for $300 on wednesday. Was wondering if she should be worried about anything... I don't know shit about this that's why I was wondering..

$300 isn't exactly pocket change to just blow like that..

Reading the sheet that she got, it says "You get 100 digital color photos (incl. head shots and 3/4 length" on CD with 2 contact sheets. Cost of shoot is $300.00. Balance is due on day of shoot. Cash only. No refunds or cancellations, including deposits."

What do you guys think?

A real mainstream modeling agency with real interest well never charge a girl for test shoots and shit, they will sign her to a contract.

She is getting scammed dude.. if she is hot she would never have to pay a dime but she would be paid herself, show us some pics.. plenty of people in here that would pay her if she is hot and "open minded"..

You should never pay to join an agency, they will earn their money from work they find the model.

If its portfolio pictures they need, agencies will usually give you a list of photographers to contact, that they recommend. Then the model would work out a deal with the photographer directly.

If she is having pictures done at the agency or from someone at the agency, you should for sure run. Also its worth finding out the photographers name and looking him up online, to see if he is actually a good photographer or not :2 cents:

rip off scam.

that's not to say that paying someone to take her picture isn't worth money, but I think this is a scam.

Did you go to a modeling agency or photographer?

Good ones don't do both.

A good portfolio should have several photographers work not just one.

I smell scam :2 cents:

about posting her picture, i would rather not for now.. she is not doing nude photos but i appreciate all the replies..

just to clarify, the photoshoot is not at the agency but is in another location, dont know the photographers name and the $300 i assume is to build her portfolio..

Cash only = Scam or Asian restaurant. You choose.

tungsten 07-02-2006 05:20 PM

ok the photoshoot IS not at the agency, and an agency is not involved actually, the person she went to is a photographer herself and she is the one that would be doing the portfolio, at the same location as where she was when they looked at her.. after the portfolio is done, she was told she would be referred to different contractors

A good portfolio only has 1 or 2 photos in it from the same photographer. If she is looking to build a portfolio, her agency should have a large list of photographers willing to do TFP that they can refer her too.

Or go to Modelmayhem.com and find photogs & make-up artists in your area who's work you like and set up a TFP with them. If they don't have a make-up artist for the shoot, don't even bother showing up.

Regarding you going along, it's pretty much common rule that Boyfriends are not allowed on shoots. This applies to Porn and Mainstream. I am sure you can go in with her and meet the guy/girl, but usually you are expected to leave during the shoot.

Nop she's getting scammed. There are a lot of guys who are setting up "fake" model agencies ... photographers mostly. Trying to make a buck out of the poor girl.

Grapesoda 07-02-2006 06:18 PM

it's a scam to get $300 from ya . . agencies don't charge to take pics . . agencies get models work . .

E$_manager 07-02-2006 06:33 PM

MaddCaz 07-02-2006 06:35 PM

MaddCaz 07-02-2006 06:35 PM

Devastation 07-02-2006 06:39 PM

sounds pretty legitimate, i gotta pay for the place for the pics, for the guy to take them, it all costs money, but i guess she'll find out after the first shooting.
