What does freedom mean to you?

Here in America we say we are "the home of the free and the land of the brave".

On this 4th of July weekend, what does Freedom mean to you?

And name one person you think is brave..

FuqALot 07-02-2006 09:42 AM

teh ability to buy freedom fries at my shop

MakingCoin_Fatal 07-02-2006 09:48 AM

freedom to do all i want... but ofcourse... all good! lol!

fallenmuffin 07-02-2006 09:54 AM

If freedom is "the ability to do whatever you want" then America isn't free now is it? We'll the ability to do whatever you want without the government intervening rather. Our freedom gets more and more restricted everyday. Though we are more free then others and less free then some. Our rules (laws) make our freedom safer or more universal :upsidedow

I don't know anyone who is brave. Everyone is scared to take risks and when they do appear to risk it they are only following a preset course of success. so even their risk is safe.

America isn't what it was and it never will be again.

Pleasurepays 07-02-2006 10:14 AM

Apparently freedom means to most to go out, get drunk and blow shit up. for someone, it will probably mean kissing their wifes hot sister and feeling her up while intoxicated... only to spend the next 2 months worrying she'll talk and after her promising repeatedly not to... she'll do it anyway. when that whore is confronted - "what the fuck? you swore that would remain between us and you promised never to tell", that dumb bitch will just say "hihihihi, i had to tell her, she's my sister"... oops. i've probably said too much.

JoeS 07-02-2006 11:01 AM

Freedom can be the ability to work towards your dreams without the government or some persons arbitrarily telling you that you must do something else.

In many countrys around the world being a porn webmaster could get you tossed in jail! Speaking out on a board about politics or religion could get you executed!

Freedom could be not being constrained by the way others see you and think you "should" be.

America is not what it was..true but what is? America like life itself is what we make it.

CamsLord 07-02-2006 11:01 AM

freedom = pursuit of life and happiness

Liberty of the person from slavery, detention, or oppression.
1. Political independence.
2. Exemption from the arbitrary exercise of authority in the performance of a specific action; civil liberty: freedom of assembly.

We are still free....

Freedom for me means beeing able to do whatever you want, when you want it, without intentionally hurting others arround you.

Living with other people limitate your freedom, but we have to draw a line for what's acceptable and what's not.

MaddCaz 07-02-2006 06:27 PM

freedom = gettin my porn on!!!!

he-fox 07-02-2006 06:29 PM

Freedom means to me the most important thing in life. I'm ready to die for it anytime.

Devastation 07-02-2006 06:36 PM

these days it seems that freedom is an illusion, where we are meant to think that the land we live in is actully free. But in reality we are all just being played by Bush.......but then again what do i know

J. Falcon 07-02-2006 06:43 PM

Freedom is not going to jail when you're innocent of any crime.

spanky part 2 07-02-2006 07:11 PM

Freedom is having a person yelling at the top of his lungs things that you despise to the fullest, and you just walk away and shrug.

If the people in power would learn that, our country would be great again.

aico 07-02-2006 07:13 PM

A chick that will come over and whip the shit out of me at no charge.

Theo 07-02-2006 07:20 PM

No one is truly free, they are a slave to wealth, fortune, the law, or other people restraining them from acting according to their will.

- Euripides

spanky part 2 07-02-2006 07:21 PM

Here's a few Will Rogers quotes on the subject.

"A country can get more real joy out of just hollering for their freedom than they can if they get it."

"Being a hero is about the shortest-lived profession on earth."

"I'm not a member of any organized political party, I'm a Democrat!"

blazi 07-02-2006 07:23 PM

I don't think freedom really exists, we are all victims of society imo. the problem is everyone thinks they are right about everything and nobody is willing to comprimise so that's just human nature I guess, honestly, freedom is nothing more than a word, that's all it ever has been and all it ever will be sadly but truly

now somebody PLEASE click my sig so I can at least feel closer to being free :1orglaugh

spanky part 2 07-02-2006 07:30 PM

The unity of freedom has never relied on uniformity of opinion.
- John Fitzgerald Kennedy

spanky part 2 07-02-2006 07:38 PM

Another Will Rogers. Man he was brilliant!
"Liberty doesn't work as well in practice as it does in speeches"

Boy does this next on fit right now.
"On account of us being a democracy and run by the people, we are the only nation in the world that has to keep a government four years, no matter what it does."

"We can't all be heroes because somebody has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by.":1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

The freedom to maintain one's illusions is obviously vital...

Mr. Blue 07-03-2006 07:28 PM

I think freedom is an ideal that just doesn't really exist. People live within the confines of whatever culture / society they're living in...if they go against those established social norms they basically get persecuted.

So, freedom for me probably only exists in a persons mind. Freedom of personal thoughts, that's probably the only place where freedom really exists.

2HousePlague 07-03-2006 07:35 PM

freedom = evolution.

And lots of them. That is freedom people... THAT is freedom.

tony286 07-03-2006 08:54 PM

I think true freedom stopped when politicians started getting elected full time at that point job security became their first priority.

Darkland 07-03-2006 09:07 PM

I see lots of people saying we are losing our American freedoms. What freedoms have we lost and have actually changed out lives. I cant think of any...

The right to protest anywhere near when the president speaks. You only get into see him if you are a born and bred republican. That's not what I call freedom.:(

SomeCreep 07-03-2006 11:26 PM

To me, freedom is just a word that rhymes with shmeedom.

I should have known this would be a typical response. Your right to protest has not been taken away, only restricted. The problem with most protestors is they think they should have the right to do anything and anywhere. Feel lucky you get to protest at all, some countries dont allow their people to voice their opinions in any way...

What's with "your", "you"? You write as if people who disagree with something and want to make their opinion known are aliens or foreigners...

The right to freedom of speech is always an appealing notion, but what does it actually mean if you can only speak where no-one can hear you? Do you seriously imagine the Founding Fathers anticipated US citizens being coralled out of the way because they wanted to express an opinion inconvenient to the administration of the day?

Not sure how you read anything like that into what I said. Common english dictates when speaking to someone you refer to them as you or your, in this case Spanky was who I was talking to. I made no comment on the pros and cons of protesting, only that it is restricted but still a right that has not been completely taken away from us.
