U.S. To Issue Redesigned $5 Note
The complete text
"The $5 note redesign is part of an ongoing U.S. effort to stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated counterfeiters... in a ?variation of an older threat,? counterfeiters are bleaching the ink off of $5 notes and reprinting the paper with markings that counterfeit $100 notes... The $1 note will not be redesigned..." Coudn't counterfeiters reduce their overhead by bleaching $1 bills rather than $5? Doesn't it make sense to redo the $1 bill, too? |
US dollars are no longer "greenbacks" after this set of redesigns... now they will be "green and peach backs"?
|
there's a reason why they use $5 bills, the president "hologram" (for lack of a better word) embedded in the bill that is not ink, on the $5 bill faces the same way as the others, while its not the same president its seen and not so conspicuous and of course not washington which is more familiar.

the entire bill is scrubbed, hoever you cannot remove that president thing, take a bill to the light, you will see the president hologram thingy I am talking about..... that does not get removed when they bleach bills, and thats how you spot the counterfits...
|
Okay. I thought they were bleaching the bills to get a blank so that the paper they printed on had the right look and feel.

When I was in the US the americans LOVED my "pretty" canadian money and I must admit it was much harder seeing denominations of bills with US cash. Most were saying they'd love money like ours, it would make things more interesting.

european money looks better

the little president thingy is called a watermark which the $1 bill does not have hence using the next lowest denomination the $5 bill. Also the $5 is the lowest bill to have the thread through the left hand side.
