Unix users need a little help.

When I either telnet in or sftp the system will only allow the idle time for like 20 seconds before it cuts off my connection. Then I have to log in again.

How can I change the idle settings? If no activity in the window it will at least sit for 2 min or so.

/etc/ssh/sshd_config

Uncomment #ClientAliveInterval and put a number

e.g. ClientAliveInterval 120

bknoob 06-30-2006 06:35 PM

oh and restart ssh

Your getting deep on me, what is distro?

bknoob 06-30-2006 06:44 PM

If you are using OpenSSH, you should be able to use ClientAliveInterval

Just add if you don't see it uncommented. (ClientAliveInterval 300)

and then reload/restart the service - /sbin/service sshd reload (depends on distro)

Nah, that's the kernel version.

Try '/etc/init.d/ssh restart' (or sshd or something like that) to reload the SSH server - should work on most distributions.
