Why do people flake out so often?

Couple weeks ago I posted an ad on Craigs List looking for a house keeper. I received about 10 replies and one specific one really stood out. So last weekend I emailed the lady and told her I would like to meet. We emailed back and forth every day this week, deciding on a time and just making any final clarifications. So she was supposed to show up today at 1. No show.

Why? Why do people do this? I never understood. Why would they make the effort to answer my ad, email me several times, set the schedule, give their phone number, and just not show up? It makes absolutely no sense to me and I've had it done to me quite often, especially with roommates.

Anybody have a good answer?

Yeah makes you wonder. Why bother in the first place when you have no intention of actually making the effort to turn up.

People are strange...

Our eagerness to say "yes", and avoid conflict, exceeds our ability to de-prioritize our own interests, when the moment to deliver finally comes.

I would agree if I was the one contacting her and asking for help. Instead, she's the one who contacted me! I wasn't asking anything of her, she was supposed to come by, check out my house, and give me a full quote. It was her idea!

Well, when your ad says:
"Looking for House Keeper. Must be able to work in the nude, give good head, fist my ass and lick my balls while washing windows, and taking out the trash. $12.95 per week, paid monthly."

Would you expect anything but flakiness?

Unbelievable, I know!

Some people think "service" is just the promising-to-do part -- :1orglaugh

They think they somehow get credit for the things they tell you they WILL DO, so much so (as in your example) that they proactively initiate "service opportunities" for themselves -- :)

may be they are changing their mind, but are not capable to say that to you straightly. Here in Ecuador all people are like this. If you ask where is some street they will show you the wrong dirrection. You become mad at them. If you don't know - why you show the direction?

MaddCaz 06-30-2006 09:30 PM

hove? Hove!!!!

E$_manager 06-30-2006 09:31 PM

and the answere (and everybody knows that) that all of them don't want to upset people with rejection
