Jesus painting in High School
Two civil liberties groups sued in federal court Wednesday to remove a picture of Jesus that has hung in a high school for more than 30 years.
Americans United for Separation of Church and State and the West Virginia American Civil Liberties Union say the painting, "Head of Christ," sends the message that Bridgeport High School endorses Christianity as its official religion. http://images.chron.com/photos/2006/...ineGallery.jpg http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...n/4011278.html I don't remember ever seeing anything like it when I attended school. Did Jesus hang in your school? |
I'm so fucking sick of religion.

Yes...almost in every corner. I attended a private catholic school so they had them everywhere... |
So what if they endorse Christianity as ithe official religion. The West was formed on the basis of Christian values. People really need to stop wasting time and money on such trivial matters.

I never saw signs of religions on my high school.

Although I'm not religious I'm familiar with those that assume religious peope are unthinking zombies. But it's not true. "Myth: Christian conservatives are poor, uneducated, and easy to command: This allegation was first made by Washington Post journalist Michael Weisskopf in a front page story on February 1st, 1993. In reality, average annual income for Christian conservatives is well above the national average. Furthermore, the average net worth of conservative Christian families rockets ahead of the national average especially when corrected for age and income. This shouldn?t surprise anyone because the values of thrift and industry that build net worth are among the values encouraged by Biblical faith. Finally, the bountiful generosity in the form of charitable donations made by America?s religious conservatives in any year exceeds the gross domestic product of many nation members of the United Nations. Most of the nation?s hundreds of Christian colleges, with their rigorous academic standards, routinely outperform state universities. Christian home schoolers win the national spelling bees year after year. In a 2003 article entitled God on the Quad, the Boston Globe described how well Christian Evangelical students are doing on New England?s liberal elite university campuses. " |

Mike33, the mention of God in the pledge of allegiance and on the U.S. paper money was added during McCarthyism.
Many of the framers of the constitution were diests and athiests. this is really irrelevant anyway. The endorsement of one religion is the condemnation of all others. |
If people don't nit pick on such issues then things slip and people forget there is seperation of church and state. It is the nit pickers that keep such standards standard.
