Depends on what you like.

Bangkok - Awesome for shopping, clubbing, nightlife. Tons of traffic, pollution and not very relaxing at all though.

Phuket - Great beaches and beautiful, but the most expensive city in Thailand.

Chang Mai - Beautiful city nestled in mountains, much better air then Bangkok, cheap and tons of great shopping -- my favorite place in Thailand

Pattaya - If you are looking for sex tourism, this is the capital. The sleaziest city on earth. ;)

Koh Samui - Awesome beaches and beautiful

Ayuthaya - If you want to see old school Thailand with cool temples and stuff

Kachanaburi - Amazing waterfalls (Erawan is the best most amazing I've ever seen), great museum where they filmed 'the bridge on the river kwai'
