I have two boys and I am a woman, I don't condone fighting in the least little bit, BUT if one of my boys were defending "their women" or family or something of this nature, I wouldn't punish them....... if they hit a girl, their dad would flip out though. lol

This is a little harsh for a kid defending the honor of his "girl" and could be sending the wrong message to him. How old is he? If you said, I missed it and I'm sorry.

If my kids fight JUST to be assholes, the punishment is pretty stiff, but if they are defending themselves or their loved ones, I can't bring myself to punish them. In fact, I have brought my kids up TO defend their honor and the honor of those they love.

I may be wrong in this way of thinking, but it's all about family and sticking together no matter what to me. This includes their friends and other loved ones.

My youngest son had a bully on him for the longest time and we did everything we could do outside of hitting, the school wouldn't do anything, bus drivers wouldn't, the other kids parents wouldn't. So I told my son to do what he had to do to protect and defend himself. He had enough one day and grabbed this kid by the back of his neck and rammed his face against the chalkboard and broke his nose. Stopped that bully thing right in it's tracks.

I don't want my kids taking the first blow, but once they are hit, they have every right to beat the shit out of the other kid.

I beg to differ, I have 4 kids, not ONE is violent. I have one 22, 17, 12 and 8. The 22 and 17 year olds aren't violent, far from it.. they don't go to bars, because they don't drink and they are all smart kids.

I never said to smack someone around that was calling them names, I said DEFEND themselves and their loved ones when there is no other recourse. If I teach them to walk away when someone slaps the hell out of them, then I raise a buncha pussies that can't and won't defend themselves when the need arises.

You didn't read what I said, I said I don't condone OR promote it, but when they have to defend themselves when no one else will, and they are hit first, they have a right to defend themselves. My kids are probably the LEAST violent people you'd ever want to meet, but they DO know how to defend themselves.

I may have misunderstood you indeed. To me, "defending ones honor" sounds like fighting words with blows - a strategy I do not particularly like. However, if you were talking about defending against physical attacks, I fully agree with you.

Yup, that's my point. I always tell them words are words, and those can be better managed by ignoring them. When it comes to words, I teach them that if they let someone see their buttons enough to push them with words then that's THEIR problem. If they let them get to them with mere words then this is their own issues and they can deal with it.

Never let 'em see you sweat, so to speak, if they see it pisses them off then they push and push and push...... if they HIT however, that's a completely different story and my kids have been taught to do what needs to be done to defend themselves.
