I understand that. The point is, he's entrusting his fortune to Bill Gates (the agreement says bill and/or his wife must remain active in the foundation), to help humanity.

Basically Warren realizes he's getting too old to distribute his wealth to the world, and he's decided to rely on Bill to do that for him.
