Simply - they don't.

It's the same tired web model... burn VC cash to attract unique visitors in hope of some future advertising profit.

I'm sure some wm's here can make $ off something that looks ad-free :winkwink: :thumbsup :pimp

iv allways wondered that too.. no ads or anything.. man they must spend shit loads on servers because blogs do take up alot of resources up on the server if the blog gets alot of hits.. (mainly on the mysql part)...

hmm.. they must be rich and kind or dumb?

no need for VC. some "build to flip", others "build to last" - some of the blog networks don't care about $, they survive from donations alone... but there are plenty of ways to tap into your userbase and generate cashflow.
