It heats up undetonated explosives from a distance and they blow up.

Maybe this sort of thing could be used on IED's. Just point it at stuff by the road as they approach.

So the military spends some insane amount of money for what's really like an oversized magnifying glass properly aimed under the sun. Granted, it's used to blow up shit ( IEDs ) and help save the men born in the US and who fight for the US. Granted too, it's a "lazer". That's great. It's cool and shit. But fuck, man. The billion each week spent for a war on oil couldn't be spent on renewable energy / health care / education / the impoverished of those born in the US ? Wait. Oh. I apologize, I'm a tree hugging, rainbow-jumping, sandle-wearing gold-fish tender who believes a country's citizens deserve some help.

I love the country I live.
