Dot com is the way to go if you are going to put money into developing a site/brand.

One worders are selling well in most all the well known TLD's.

Roommates.us just sold for $10,000. Supposedly a .us also sold privately for $30K last week which would be the highest to date.

one of the more popular .us domains i can think of.

any extension can work for branding. whoreslutfuckingpussy.com doesn't have any greater perceived value than whoreslutfuckingpussy.us. a domain without traffic, is a domain without traffic. domain value is based on traffic and revenue, not the extension.

.us domains are worthless.. and for the domains above like $25 if your lucky each.

there is no magic ratio or book that says Y=X , all you can do is throw the domains up for sale on a high traffic place and see what the bites are like

I think Jew.us sold earlier this year for around $29k, as well as football.us that was in the $18k range - numerous others have sold in the $5-10k range like sale.us, sales.us, classifieds.us and a bunch in the $1-3K range - but all one word domains as far as I've seen so far

You just have to come up with an idea for a domain and a way to market it and you can make anything worth something.

it depends on the domain itself. For instance something like amateurs.us would be very good. Something like amateursintheirbedrooms.us would be pretty sucky

I would only buy the .us as part of locking up the domain space, but not for any real branding. :2 cents:
