Do you live in fear of cancer?

Do you make food choices, habit choices, etc... based on "it can increase your chance of getting cancer"?

I mean to a point, I know I'd never stick my head in the microwave or anything just to prove it won't cause me cancer (as much as I know some of you would like me to)....

but for odds and ends here and there, do you avoid stuff because you heard somewhere that it might make you more likely to get cancer one day?

Yngwie 06-23-2006 05:10 PM

I live in fear if nothing. Fearing to many things is not living.

Yngwie 06-23-2006 05:11 PM

something may get me one day, but right now I'm fine so I live my life. I eat what I want, whenever I want.

The Ghost 06-23-2006 05:12 PM

No cancer fears yet, though i'm sure those will increase as I get older. I think the realisitc possiblity of cancer comes after the first colonoscopy <-- probably not spelled right.

SilentKnight 06-23-2006 05:26 PM

I still live by the motto "whatever doesn't kill me...only makes me stronger."

Stupid, perhaps.

But I'm a product of my environment. :winkwink:

madawgz 06-23-2006 05:28 PM

fuck cancer, im going to die when im going to die....simple..

Nah. Although I come from a family with a history of cancer, my philosophy is "When it's your time to go, it's time to go" Live life NOW. You only have ONE shot.

biftek 06-23-2006 05:30 PM

i used to fear cancer , not that is changed my lifestyle , the foods i eat etc , a few members in my family have died of cancer ,

foods causing cancer i think is just one of those urban myths

woj 06-23-2006 05:33 PM

not in fear, but try to make smart choices about food/habits/etc...

Dirty Dane 06-23-2006 05:57 PM

Its all about genes. If none in your family had cancer, then u likely not get it.

WiredGuy 06-23-2006 06:00 PM

There are too many types of cancers out there to really live in fear. Just don't go crazy in eating and avoid canerous items (like microwaves) and you should be fine.

Charles and I seem to agree on a lot lately -- :)

But being that I am 2hp, I must add a smidgen of bs pseudo-intellectual rhetoric -- :1orglaugh So here it is:

"Life is inherently a destructive experience. When we are young, our bodies renew vigorously and we grow. But, even the young may fall victim to a coconut falling from a tree or a crosstown bus that came out of nowhere. Basically, it's a meat grinder, folks. Life is GORE. Life is HORROR.

To redress the gore and horror, thankfully, there is a thing called HEDONISTIC PLEASURE... the 5 senses and all that we can do to make them "happy".

Like anything else we do, the pursuit of pleasure is fraught with peril. We are living forever inside the circular equation: I am afraid to die* >> I want to feel better about it* >> I feel good* >> I am afraid to feel less good than I do right now >> I feel less good >> I am afraid to die* >>...

When you factor-in religious ideologies that Romanticize suffering and self-denial, insert guilt at each of the asterisk points above. And round n round we go... where she stops... Well, you know the rest -- :)

CLIFF NOTES: SEX, DRUGS, ROCK-N-ROLL -- :thumbsup "

Both side of my families have extreme cases of cancer (from liver to lung to breast to bladder, etc.) so it doesn?t look so great for me in the future. I?m really not afraid of it because if you worry about death how can you truly ever live? In reality I?m really only afraid of a couple of things. My biggest fear? Dolphins. Dolphins are scary, scary creations of the lord, put here to watch over humans to keep them in check.

jollyperv 06-24-2006 12:43 AM

If I have any scares, I'll get some broccosprouts and head on down to cuba.

quiet 06-24-2006 01:43 AM

i've just chosen a healthy lifestyle. we're all going to die. i have gotten myself into very good shape, i eat good food... it's all about quality of life, not quantity.

Timon 06-24-2006 01:54 AM

Joesho got manateenoma from eating cheesesteaks :(

rants 06-24-2006 02:08 AM

Yes, I try to avoid too much red meat but sometimes I can't help it and need a steak or a burger, but I try not to eat too much. I also never eat bbq food since the burnt pieces contain a lot of carcinogenic material.

I also have a fear of dying in a car accident. Most young people die this way. I got around this problem by working at home and hardly ever driving anywhere. I always try avoiding on freeways. My boyfriend does a lot of the grocery shopping and errands for me so I don't have to drive around a lot. I'm more afraid of car accidents due to the pain factor, and reading about how people get ejected from cars and get internal injuries. Reading how most young people die on mydeathspace.com, you can see that most die from car related accidents.

I am afraid of cancer too because of the pain involved, I have a fear of needles and I don't like any discomfort at all. I just want to die in my sleep.
