Spam me with flash capable hosting please!

Wow..trying to get a flash audio/video chat program off the ground is proving more of a bitch than I thought it would.

My current provider does not have nor can he get a flash capable server.
And the people selling the flash chat software want an arm & a leg to host this program.

So...looking for the best price I can find on a flash enabled server.
Fire away ladies & gentlemen!

If its windows they need to add a mime type. All servers are flash capable. Rent your own box. www.webair.com is running a special this month. Around 139.00 a month which should be much more than what you would require.

I don't think that's quite what he means, if it's a chat type of flash application it'll likely need some sort of "backend" to connect to to handle the communication in real time, which would normally be some sort of totally seperate process.

What he said!

If memory serves, you also need to pay licensing for X number of simultanious connections... That also might explain the high price.

You probably need flash media server (previosly known as flash communication server or simply flashcomm) hosted. as far as i know media temple offers it as add on to their shared hosting plans. i'm sure there must be others offering it too.

In most cases you need this:

http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaserver/

Older versions are around for about $600 new it's $2-6000

You also need root access to run it.

My apologies to all in not being really clear in the very first post (was sorta half asleep).

Chaze is correct that most of these programs that I've been looking for DO need a flash media server.

considering its lists at $4500 on adobe's website for 150 cuncurent connections your probably better off buying it yourself and gettting a dedicated box and getting it installed with your serial.

Our cam2cam software, www.cam2camlive.com runs using Flash Media Server so this is actually something that I know quite a bit about.

If you choose to lease rather than buy...You best option is www.uvault.com

Most the other companies are too restrictive to even do a proper software installation. The problem is that if you do FMS lease you won't get much more than 5Mbps stream. Thats good for 5-20 live video streams depending on the quality of the video.

The best option is to buy it from Macromedia. Its $4500 and you can customize your "profile" for how to balance # of connections versus stream quality.
