Bank lost my deposit... Yeah right...

So I get a letter today. The bank lost a deposit for $700.

I call the number and the lady immediately goes into a schpeel about how I need to send a copy of the check. I say, it was cash and she says it is gonna be more difficult to resolve this now...

I say, FUCK YOU I withdrew the money from my Epassporte at your ATM, then I removed 100 from the 800 withdrawl and put the remaining 700 into an envelope and put that envelope into your ATM. It is all on your cameras. I deposited on the 9th, you credited me on the 12th and you sent me this letter on the 15th. That means YOU LOST YOUR MONEY, not mine. Once I gave it to you, it became your money and you lost it. So you can replace your money yourself.

She puts me on hold for so long the call dropped. I call back and ask for a supervisor. When she gets on the line I do it all over again and she says they will have to investigate and let me know.

So fucking lame... Don't they have cameras for the tellers that open the fucking envelopes?

FreakinWebmaster 06-22-2006 02:56 PM

sucky :Oh crap

pocketkangaroo 06-22-2006 03:05 PM

That does suck. Never happened to me but I'm scared to deposit through the ATM. I always go in and get a receipt.

Nismo 06-22-2006 03:06 PM

Damn that sucks.

Same. Fuck ATMs. I only ever use a teller.

Tdog 06-22-2006 03:23 PM

The ATM you have to rely on some minimum wage employee to credit your account. Who know how acurate they are.

TheSenator 06-22-2006 03:23 PM

You have to file charges against them so that you can get the video.

WD Brian 06-22-2006 03:26 PM

You should never deposit cash via ATM. It's happened to a couple people I know.

Same here...call me oldfashioned, but you will never find me putting envelopes with money on ATM's, rather waste some time on the waiting line :2 cents:

I think you are right... I asked how long they keep videos and she said usually 30 days... But they will give me an answer to the problem 30 days from the 15th, not the 9th... So the video will be gone when I get my answer.

Jensen 06-22-2006 03:29 PM

hmm in norway you put the cash into the atm sort of thing and get a receipt and its instantly credited to my account..

but fuck the bank... its their loss as you say.. why the fuck should you suffer?

Thats why you take his advice and call the cops and accuse them of fraud right now.

pornguy 06-22-2006 03:31 PM

Dont use a bank. Use a credit union.

I went to a teller and they still fucked up. $3000 was deposited into the wrong account. I was thinking that It was taking a long time for my check to clear but then I remember that I had included $100 cash with the check and cash shows up immediately. That's when I went to the bank and got it straightened out. They argued with me and if I had not had a deposit reciept then I don't think I would have gotten my $3000 dollars back.

That was Bank of Hawaii...don't ever use that fucking bank!!!
That is just one example of multiple fuck ups from this bank.

Mr. Romance 06-22-2006 03:49 PM

that sucks...

I refuse to deposit cash in the ATM. A teller asked me about that once ("Don't you trust us?") I just smiled.

Dvae 06-22-2006 04:01 PM

Never ever deposit even 2 cents in the ATM.
They are not responsible for any losses, their fault or not. A receipt is not proof.
I used to for years do all my deposits at the ATM, after hearing a few horror stories of lost deposits from other people I don't do it anymore.

nestle 06-22-2006 04:04 PM

Been ATM depositing for 5 years for two different banks. Never had a problem. Of course, I've never deposited cash.

With checks, you can always contact whoever gave you the check to get it cancelled and get a new one from them.

With cash, you got no way out.

WiredGuy 06-22-2006 04:08 PM

Try this, a few years ago I deposited $4k worth of checks at the Teller (not the ATM), so I even got a signature on the deposit slip. I deposited it, and was never credited the deposit. It went missing between my bank and the central check clearance in Toronto. They took the money out of the account and basically said too bad since they have no idea which accounts to debit/credit. Long story short, I bitch and bitch they say tough luck. 1 Year goes by and they mysteriously found my deposit and tried to deposit it (of course all the checks bounced). I took the cancelled deposit slip to my attorney and about 2 months later, I had a nice settlement from my bank :)

Same here, I insist on a signature from a person, but as my story above suggests, that may not be enough at times....

I -never- deposit cash at ATM's, i wanna see that money counted and credited by a human right in front of me.

BAKO 06-22-2006 04:10 PM

What bank is that ?

Why tempt fate. Sooner or later it will happen to you.
I figure if the bank tells you straight out they will not stand behind your deposits made from the ATM checks or cash it makes no difference.
Like I said a receipt from the ATM is not proof the transaction took place.

RayBonga 06-22-2006 04:19 PM

I always makes deposits on the atm and never had a problem with that.

Anyway, now days there are some atms that count the money themselves, you don't put it on an envelope, you just put the bills like in a vending machine.

madawgz 06-22-2006 04:42 PM

always go to the teller for deposits!

Antonio 06-22-2006 05:04 PM

never deposted cash at the ATM, from the teller I get a receipt, and if it is for a bigger amount, I double check that the account number is correct, after that what happens is their baby and they are responsible

Banks are evil. put all money in a brown paper bag under your mattress.

DutchTeenCash 06-22-2006 06:00 PM

hmm

never thouht bout that, I use ATMs to deposit as well, but they do have ccd cameras n all and you do get a receipt.

biftek 06-22-2006 06:06 PM

fuck that , bank says we lost your money , and you are relying on a camera to tell the truth next thing the story will be "sorry the camera wasn't working at the time "

rather use the teller , need someone to abuse when fuck ups happen

Tom_PM 06-22-2006 06:15 PM

I always deposit my checks at ATM's and always say YES when it asks if I want a printed receipt. I then file the recieipts in my file folder.

Sucks you had some troubles, but it sounds like the way you did it, it'll be SIMPLE to prove.

When I made a night deposit for my old job, the bank claimed it was $100 short. I turned the store upside down, called my districts manager, loss prevention manager, tore the store upside down again and freaking agonized over a stupid $100 for 4 days before the bank called and said THEY made the error and there were "no problems". I let that bank manager have an earful for a solid 30 minutes about how the "no problem" was a HUGE problem for me for the better part of the week, how I was under scrutiny for theft, how I had my employees under scrutiny for theft, and all she could do was apologize. That totally sucked.

- AFN - 06-22-2006 06:19 PM

I went to an ATM last night withdrew 600 fucking machine only gave me 340 it jammed with my cash I got no receipt so im in a simular situation now I have to wait for the system to do some automatic credit thing and if it doesnt then I have to fill out these forms from hell.

Plain and SIMPLE ATMs suck Period. if possible deal directly with a human :)

Tom_PM 06-22-2006 06:20 PM

Damn too late to edit. I meant to say I always deposit my checks at the ATM at my banks local branch only. Not just random or unknown ATM's.

I do believe they have cameras for the tellers but outside cameras are a little different...best wishes to get this resolved and in the future make all cash deposits in person :)

JD 06-22-2006 06:39 PM

about 4 years ago my bank lost a check for 1300 bucks. I put it in the night drop box and the ignorant twat that emptied it dropped my envelope behind a bunch of boxes and didn't notice......After raising hell for about an hour talking to just about every employee there they found the shit. Ever since that, I do deposits face to face

DaddyHalbucks 06-22-2006 06:42 PM

Ask your bank point blank if it is worth losing a customer.

pocketkangaroo 06-22-2006 06:46 PM

Just some tips (had a gf who worked at a bank):

1) Always use a teller. If you are inside, right down his/her name on the receipt. This way if you have a problem you walk in and say my deposit was with Megan at this time and date.

2) Buy extra deposit slips from the place you buy your checks. Using the bank ones where you right in your account number can get messed up. They use computers and scanners for most of that stuff and it is easy to get deposited in the wrong account. Costs like $10 for a box of 1000.

3) Always write your account # on the back of your checks when endorsing if you don't have a stamp.

I think we all trust banks too much. The truth is that most people working there are $10/hour people who probably don't care too much about your money.

reynold 06-22-2006 06:59 PM

Ok, you lost your money right inside their premises... Cool. :pimp

RogerV10 06-22-2006 07:41 PM

Hope you can get that worked out.

Vitasoy 06-22-2006 08:08 PM

DBS.US 06-22-2006 08:11 PM

You put cash in an ATM??? Sucker:1orglaugh

rants 06-22-2006 08:19 PM

I never deposit in the bank, because in Bank of America when I used to deposit thorugh the teller , you had to fill out each and every single check on some deposit slip and how much it was for.

I am too lazy to even leave my house these days so I end up going to make deposits once in one and a half to two months or so and I make large deposits in the atm. Everytime I make one I have around 40 -50 something checks and there's no way I'm going inside the bank to deposit 40-50 checks, looks way too suspicious, plus I wonder if they would make me input each check amount on the deposit slip.

My deposits are pretty big too, I deposited over 15k through the atm all the time with no problems, except I add up the checks wrong a lot, many times the number I deposit is lower than what the checks even are or higher because I added it wrong I guess.

Wouldn't a bank teller be like WTF if you have 50 small checks and they add up to over 15k at a time? They would probably think I was doing fraud or something.

After I started getting lazy and making big deposits because I can't go to the bank often and buying a lot of things online my bank put a hold on my account, they kept freezing my card so that I couldn't use it unless I called it to verify it was me. They thought someone was committing fraud because of big deposits and a lot of on-line transactions.

Sounds like BofA?

Find a new bank.

Wells Fargo has treated me well so far

xuron 06-22-2006 08:55 PM

Dude, it sounds like you still need your parents to show you how to manage your check book... geese, why are you so nervouse and lazy when it comes to your money? I would be proud to be depositing alot of money.. It makes me a more valuable client to the bank.
