how can I make a simple alarm system using one of my PCs?
moving to a new house, the house is wired up, but the 'office' is like a room attached to the house, how can I set up an alarm that gets activated if someone opens that door?
any ideas? like may be something infrared connetced to the PC that fires up Winamp when someone crosses or something of the sort???????? |
well i know there is software that will detect movement on a webcam and start recording
can't really think of any other security devices on the market that will suit your needs like that |

I'd rather tie the dog's tale to the door handle, that'd work like 101 % |
use a dog, that's easier

lmao wtf?
|
welllllllll ???????

interfacing might work... but its not simple so nevermind... you can buy an ordinary alarm system which connects to your door..
|
you can pay for some webcam software that'll dial a pager or send an email notification from a webcam motion sensor
|
its not going to be simple dude, so dont knock people trying to help you.
computers are not designed as security devices natively. so your gonna have to do some shit to make it work. deal with it, or dont ask for help. |

I still do some consulting work in the security industry. GE makes lots of products that are pretty user friendly that you can do yourself.
For around $200 you can install a small wireless system. (GE Simon 3 Wireless - 80-307-3x) Check out this site: http://www.homesecuritystore.com/ezs...?productid=904. |
i wouldn't touch a wireless system , prone to false alarms causes by intereference , or the worst , no alarm due to interference , nothing beats a hard wired system

There is also some that uploads the images to the internet in case they steal your PC and webcam. It would be kind of useless without that. |
